Sad part is if you read Geddy’s new book, Neil went to own area to party and celebrate and Alex and Ged did their own stuff. Never saw each other after that night. Ended weird. Ged ended up calling him months later to reconnect. 😮. RIP. 🪦 🥁

I was very surprised to hear they didn’t party together after the last show. I think toward the end of the tour, there were talks about adding a few more shows and Neil said no. Maybe there was some initial resentment between Geddy/Alex and Neil that night?

@MikeC-nl3vu Yeah, Geddy has went on record to say that he held resentment towards Neil over it, as when the tour dragged on he and Alex were feeling more and more up for it - but Neil already wanted to stop for a long time, once Geddy found out Neil was unwell - all of that resentment was gone, all he cared about past that point was protecting his friend's privacy

Yeah, I still haven't gotten over it TBH. Part of me is even still a bit "mad," in a way, that we never got the chance to thank him as fans so that he truly understood how much he meant to us. I know he wanted privacy in the final days, but it was like finding out a family member had been killed in an accident when the news broke. I just feel the grieving process would have been easier if we would have had time to reflect more. Afterimage, all over again.

That Neil was constantly learning and saw himself as a student of the drums illustrates his dedication to the instruments. The way he travelled between shows, for me, illustrates how he didn’t want to fall in to the trap of being the idol surrounded by his fans, something he wasn’t comfortable with. That he could easily go from lunch in a roadside cafe to playing in front of tens of thousands shows how he let his drumming do the talking. When he did give interviews, though, you realised that this was a deep, intelligent individual. Everything about Neil Peart, and Rush generally, was something worth being inspired by!

I am a Rush fan here. I became a Rush fan because I liked the lyrics and song content of Rush. I did not realize that these 3 people were amazing musicians. I was a true solid Christian until the age of 17. Yes I listened to the radio but did not own any cassettes, 8-tracks or cd's of any rock group. Yes I am 53 going on 54. I enjoyed writing as a child. Neil Peart was the best writer to me ever. Yes I cried at the Vapor Trails concert I went too. Also cried when I heard they retired and when I heard he passed on. I have never heard a band that matches up to Rush but I am open minded and give them a chance. Only one band besides Rush would have been perfect for Neil Peart would have been King Crimson if Robert Fripp allowed him to write and play on his level and not confine or limit him.

I was coming home from work on a Friday evening. The 6PM radio news break started off the station's hour. They segued into it by playing the intro to Tom Sawyer, and the news anchor began and said, "It's a sad day in the world of music today......," and I just knew. The next day CBS was broadcasting their NFL playoff game for that day and used RUSH for their bumper music as they broke for commercials. I thought of whatever broadcast technician for CBS who put those in and wondered if he had a tear running like I did.

I think I miss Mr. Peart 's CREATIVITY more than anything else. It was always great to listen to the next live drum solo or what he would play on the next recording. Always integrating new rhythm, whether it was from a trip to Africa or a lesson with Peter Erskine. He drew inspiration from everywhere and gave great music to us !! Selfishly, I wish we could still hear music from him.

Neil was technically one of the best drummers to ever have played and continued to challenge himself with new genres (including jazz) and new playing styles such being able to play with both the matched grip (his primary grip) and standard grip. He is in the Pantheon of drummers with Moon, Bonham etc. Being in a 3 piece rock band enabled him to grow in that every instrument needed to be a lead instrument. What is often overlooked is that he was a fine lyricist as well. Rush also demonstrates the creativity and longevity a band can have if they avoid addictions.

The second drum fill after "The meek shall inherit the earth" 2112 Overture/The Temples Of Syrinx. Probably the best spontaneous drum fill ever recorded period. Remember this was Two inch tape recording, no pro tools here, get it right the first time! I worked that fill so many times and his fluidity and precision was uncanny. 20 plus years and never could get the touch and flow of that fill. Geddy starts singing right at the end of the fill but I have heard an isolated version and it is spectacular.
