Some things you need to consider about the lost capacity. A lot of the oil in the pan was displaced by the balance shafts that are no longer there so even though you made the pan smaller you gained interior volume when you changed to the type S oil pump. The only real way to know is to actually fill it, run it and pull the dipstick.

An oil cooler is not a pump reservoir, it will not help with the lost oil capacity or oil pan/pump/pickup starvation. An Accusump is an accumulator not a pump reservoir, it will not help with the lost oil capacity or chronic oil pan/pump/pickup starvation. A remote oil filter will not makeup for the reduced oil pan volume/capacity. The volume increase needs to be in the oil pan readily available to the oil pump pickup at all times and conditions.

Easy enough to add an auxiliary oil reservoir to increase sump capacity,like a dry sump oil tank. Means can have as much oil as you want. As for gearboxes the six speed from a RX8 takes some beating. Nice close ratios, plentiful and cheap!

For the shifter you could use one of those shifters that mounts to the body of the car completely and then just weld a piece to the shift rod to make it long enough to reach. Some people end up doing that when doing the euro 6 speed swaps on the American e36's since the parts are hard to source out sometimes. Takes a bit of trial and error though to get the right length.

I'm going to watch the video tonight. Very excited for it! But i wanted to say very quick based off of the video title, you might be able to add another quart/liter or so in oil volume by adding a large oil cooler or something of that nature. Then you'll get some of that missing volume back. :)
@Nasonix2
@Nasonix2 6 жыл бұрын
Like 1 semi large oil cooler and maybe some other similar addon along with thicker inner diameter oil hoses/lines. Might get up to adding a quart that way. Otherwise perhaps fabricate more oil pan width on the 2 sidewalls of the oil pan. But that might be more work. All of those ideas combined has to help if it even turns out that it will need it. Keep on keeping on! Extremely loving the build!! Ps. I'd love to see more content someplace showing the creation of a kmiata on an NA6-NA8 chassis. I haven't seen any videos of how to.

The ZF gearboxes is the way to go. Its pretty much the universal gearbox everyone in sweden uses for builds. Doesnt matter if you have a rwd converted saab, a turbo volvo, a 2jz swapped something or a bmw engine. Everyone uses the ZF's with adapter plates. The gearboxes are cheap and can hold 700~ whp, We use the ones from Diesel bmw's though, they hold for a lot of torque.

Why not just make two bungholes in the oil pan or oil cooler and have some A.N fittings going to an oil cooler in the front of the car you would gain all your capacity back and then some.

Dry sump is an expensive option that we're trying to avoid for now. This car will get an oil cooler, but we want to make sure there's adequate oil capacity around the oil pickup. It's not just total capacity that's important, it's the volume around the pump that we want to make sure we have enough of. Widening the pan in the front area near the pickup should do the trick, or so we hope.

You could get a thermostat oil housing to use an oil cooler. That could bring back your oil capacity. A 19 row oil cooler is huge and probably not needed but that could hold a litre of oil and all the 10an lines. I would like to donate my Trust oil filter relocator for your build. It already has a built in thermostat. Let me know if you’d like it.

Cody Heizler I was going to suggest an oil cooler for the same reason! I have a feeling these are filmed a while in advance though, so in real time they have probably already finished the oil pan.. Its a good idea though

we are going to be installing an oil cooler, but we really want to ensure there's adequate capacity in and around the pickup location, and to do that we think we need to enlarge the sump in that area, plus we'll be adding baffles to prevent the oil from sloshing away from the pickup in the corners and under high g braking.
@codyheizler7294
@codyheizler7294 6 жыл бұрын
Speed Academy Yea I hear ya. I know an oil cooler wouldn’t be the best way to add oil capacity if you’re already losing sump size. What you guys are doing is the best, as always. That’s why I watch your KZbin channel cause you guys don’t cut corners on anything. Keep up the good work and my offer still stands. If you’d like my Trust oil filter relocator it’s yours. I used it on my skyline powered s14 and when I sold it, I kept it. Now that I’m into Euro cars, I really can’t make it work on my cars and I’d really love to say I was able to help out with a part.

To determine oil volume loss you still have to consider the displacement of the OEM oil pickup unit vs. the S2000 oil pickup that takes up considerably less space. Just sayin'.

Davillain overkill? These guys track their cars all the time. When you take a transverse engine and mount it longitudinally I would assume oil take up and flow would be hindered on the track. Put that together with the lowered oil capacity and a dry sump seems like an okay idea
@minilogoguy18

Not overkill for a track car, necessary in most cases even with an engine that belongs in the car.
@Sonos45

I wouldn't say overkill. Dry sump is extremely cost prohibitive though.
@merkantelismo
@merkantelismo 6 жыл бұрын
Yep overkill it is. As the theme in most of their builds are use as much available oem parts as possible. Aftermarket ones will just start to snow ball a project. Unless you have the support of "sponsors" backing you with parts and fabrication. They want to show how any ordinary citizen can build it and not how famous youtube'rs do it.

Hey Speed Academy! Just a suggestion for the gear selector arm since the e36 one from the ZF is too short. The Z3m/2.8/3.0 have a longer one. Also the e34 525i use the same transmission setup with a longer arm. I have a z3m arm sitting in my garage. I can measure it and tell u if it will work. Let me know how many inches/mm longer it needs to be to be centered in the S-chassis shifter hole. Love the project keep it coming!

Pete doesn't have the upper body strength for that ;) But seriously, having tried cars with the p/s disconnected before, it's miserable if you need to make any kind of fast steering inputs. We'll definitely figure out a p/s solution, whether it's using the OE hydraulic pump on an electric pump like the SW20 MR2 one that's commonly used by K-swapped Honda guys.
