It's not all sunshine and rainbows here though. Canada's an amazing country, but it's also important to remember that our history is also built off of racism and slavery, and our treatment towards minority groups (specifically the Indigenous people) have barely improved in the last 400 years.

I'm a bit late watching this. But I wanted to mention how much I enjoy visiting Canada. I'm from California. I have visited Canada many times in the past. My husband was in the U.S. Coast Guard when we were first married in the early 1970s. We lived across the strait from Vancouver Island and loved going on the Black Ball Ferry to Victoria. We started watching Canadian TV during those years and nowadays still enjoy streaming shows produced in Canada. Gordon Lightfoot has been a favorite of mine for many, many years. Of course, he's only one of the many Canadian artists and authors I love, like Emily Carr and Robertson Davies, to name just two. Just this past week I took my 14 year old granddaughter on a trip to Toronto. We had a wonderful time visiting the museums there. We also took the train and bus to Niagara Falls and enjoyed sightseeing there too, including the old power station underground tunnel that's recently opened. I was so impressed with the wonderful public transportation and very helpful and friendly people everywhere. There are several Canadian KZbin channel creators I enjoy, like your wonderful channel.

Now you need to come east to the Maritimes once COVID is over. The farther east you travel the nicer the the people ( I am a bit biased where I was born and live in New Brunswick). Atlantic Canada has everything. New Brunswick has beautiful rolling hills, and river valleys, vineyards,Salmon fishing, the bay of Fundy with its lobster, highest tides, Acadian fetes, beaches. Nova Scotia has rugged ocean vistas, scallops, British and French fortresses, Cape Breton trail, festivals, vineyards, and Oak island. Prince Edward Island is a beautiful place from tip to tip with it’s lighthouses, beaches, food festivals, lobster dinners, clamming, tuna fishing. Newfoundland has the nicest people, with kitchen parties and you can get get screeched in. The first Viking settlement in North America, fjords, whales and icebergs. You can hear the accents of our ancestors that came from England, France, Ireland, Scotland that first settled here. Plus you can learn from the indigenous nations that were here before we made a Mark on our land. We may be smaller in size, but you can experience so much , at a slower pace. I know I sound like a tour book, but I guess I love it here. I know you would too.

Hi. Good to see you and congratulations for meeting 5000 subs. I miss Canada 🇨🇦 and you mentioned everything I love about it. I first visited 30 years ago. I loved the Hockey and the baseball and I never really attended sport matches here. The people made it enjoyable. Farmers markets with Tabor corn and huge peaches! Thankfully we have Tim Horton here and Krispy Creme and Reeses cups 😋and I too love maple syrup. I used to visit Calgary and the Rockies a lot. One day I'll return. Take care. Have a good day 🏴🍷🇨🇦🥓🥞

@@jmc8076 Good morning ☕️Couldn’t agree more , Canada 🇨🇦 is very special and looks after retires very well with pensions etc. We also love to experience other countries and have been to Portugal 🇵🇹 for the last three Winters which we loved, Covid restrictions put a stop to that this year . We would like to be 6 months in Portugal 🇵🇹 ( way cheaper than Florida) and spend our summers here in 🇨🇦 Canada. In doing this it protects our OHIP health care which not only is free but very important as you get older. Hope you have a wonderful week Cheers 🇨🇦🙂🍺🍷

Hi Friends, Thoroughly enjoyed this! No doubt Canada is one of the very best countries in the world. Your winters are much milder than ours in Ottawa, as crazy as that sounds. I agree, our summers are the BEST!! We are extremely blessed! Oh, I have to share. I was at the Quick Check (like 7-11) and I apologized to the clerk and she looked at me and laughed. “You aren’t from here, are you?” She asked. “Nope”, I said. “Guess 🤗”... she laughed again and asked... “Canada?” “Yup”, I said with an LOL. You really covered most of the best points! Hugs and cheers my dears! 🙌🏻 🤗 🇨🇦

I'm a Victoria, BC girl, but I lived in Ottawa for 7 years (2013-2020) and I absolutely LOVED Ottawa. Even the winters didn't bother me so much. Being from Victoria, winter was a novelty for me since I'd never experienced real winter before lol. Almost don't feel like I qualify as a true Canadian being from out West lol. I'm back in Victoria now, but I really did live Ottawa and being close to so many wonderful places like the 1000 Islands.

@@debbielockhart7762 - I could say something cheeky about Victorians not being real Canadians... but alas, I LOVE Victoria. I have an Uncle and cousins who grew up there. I could say the same about Victoria... it is just so beautiful. I think it's actually not dissimilar to Ottawa, except for the cold. I grew up in Ottawa and I'll never ever get used to the winters... and it's been 58 years. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Ottawa :)

Hi there! I'm new to your channel and enjoying it. I was born and raised in Michigan USA and have known many Canadians as friends, neighbors, and co-workers - lots of Canadians working and living in Michigan. Great people. I ended up in Arizona for the past 20 years. I retired last year and moved to Asheville NC, which I'm enjoying very much. It was always my dream to retire to the south of England half the year and Portugal during the winter, but alas it is a dream :) Glad you're enjoying your retirement. Your videos are very informative.

It's so so nice to hear all the reasons why you love living in Canada. It makes me appreciate it even more. P.S. I love hot oatmeal porridge, but I've never thought to put maple syrup on it...always brown sugar. I'll have to try it on my oatmeal next time. It sounds good!

Canada is one of my favorite countries. I have travelled from Vancouver to Halifax and love every inch. Took the sleeper Canadian rail across country ..spectacular. Love the people, so helpful and they love to have conversations and ask about life in the states. Got a chuckle out of the cars stopping so you could cross the street....warning do not try that in Florida, or most states.

Oh my, the rain. I remember it well, even after 34 years in Canada. Every July 15, the news would say that it is St. Swithen's Day and legend has it that if it rains on that day, it would rain for 40 days and 40 nights. One year, I can remember walking around Glasgow as a 20 year old, wondering when the rain was going to stop. It did rain on St. Swithen's Day that year, and it did rain at some point for 40 days and 40 nights. Everything was going green and mossy lol. I sometimes miss the rain, but not that much of it!
