I don't agree. When I was a kid in the late 70's and early 80's she was Madonna/Cher huge. She won award after award. She had her own variety shows. @@90hatter90 ONJ dabbled in many genres, country, pop and folk. The only reason she is not recognized now for Country is because she gained many young fans when she performed in "Grease" and many people think that is where her career started. "Have You Never Been Mellow" is not classified as a 'country' song. It is a pop song. It charted in country charts just because of ONJ's cross-over appeal. I had the pleasure of meeting Olivia when we worked together on an episode of the TV show "Glee". Josh Groban was there too. They were both really nice.

The incomparable voice of Olivia! Two more of her upbeat songs I think you’d like are “Xanadu” with ELO, and “Twist of Fate” from her movie Two of A Kind (which co-starred John Travolta).

An all time favorite of mine. Glad you got around to it! "A little more love", and "Hopelessly Devoted (from Grease)" are a couple more to listen to.

Hopelessly Devoted To You really shows off her voice. It's her ballad from Grease.

Olivia Newton John started in the early 70s in the country music arena. Listen to her Have you ever been mellow. She had another country hit but I don't remember the name 🤔.

“If You Love Me, Let Me Know” is probably the one you are thinking of.
@richremaly84182 жыл бұрын
@@bryanfoster362 thank you so much. Yes that is the one I could not think of. Even though I seen Olivia at the Allentown fair in the 70s. I was probably 14 or 15 at the time.

She made her mark on the music scene. John Denver seemed to like her early on. They became friends. They did a duet together. Check out"Fly Away" She's more of the background vocal on the song but a special background singer. Her and John Travolta have been friends for years as well. She started U.S. music career by rising on the Country music charts which caused controversy because she wasn''t an American artist. Anyway love her music and all the she has done,

As others have suggested, I’m going to go with I Honestly Love You. It’s one of her early hits and as a 17yo, it made me realize how I felt about one of the guys in our group 😍

"Xanadu" is one of my all-time favorites because it featured Olivia, one of my all-time favorite female vocalists, and ELO, the Masters of 70's pop orchestra music. Great song!
@elgenetiamzon10622 жыл бұрын
Nearly the whole soundtrack to Xanadu was produced and arranged by the Legendary Jeff Lynne of ELO. He also wrote many of the songs featured in it, including the title track Xanadu.

This song has an interesting chord progression which makes it memorable and mysterious sounding. That bass guitar you commented on .. played by David Hungate ..another appearance by one of the guys who formed TOTO ..who were seemingly on every hit record back then.

I’m glad someone has mentioned the unusual but beautiful chord structure of this song. Repeating the D & D7b5 throughout the song is a master stroke to set up the mystery of this song.

"Magic" was one of the many hit songs from motion picture soundtrack of her film "Xanadu". Both ONJ and also ELO scored hits that became instant classics. I still own the cassette of this album and my two daughters grew up playing it over and over!
