This is extremely like the classic horror movie. You have the guy that doesn't take it seriously and scares his friends. The guy that is scared and thinks it's a bad idea to taunt the ghost. You have the spider man kiss as all horror movies have them. Finally you have the friends look for a missing friend only to find their stuff on the ground. The only inconsistency is that they left prematurely, everyone knows that once you see a ghost kill your friend you have to stay until it kills everyone but you, then you can leave.

Double Fine Productions' games lean _heavily_ on the juxtaposition of mundane situations in bizarre or fantastical settings for their humor -- to wit, _Psychonauts_ took place in a lakeside summer camp for psychics, _Grim Fandango_ has you playing as a travel agent for the recently-deceased, and _Middle Manager of Justice..._ well, it basically does what it says on the tin.

Tip: Showing fear (saying “I’m afraid” or saying things like “Run!” or “Get Out!”) has a good chance of the ghost starting a hunt with you as the target.
