I like what you said about the barrel vs wood chips. That made sense.

This is definitely something I'd like to do but used barrels are a bit hard to come by and very expensive in England from what I can see
@flyingwombattv3 күн бұрын
Yeah that’s very fair! We are fortunate in Australia to have such a huge wine industry, makes sourcing barrels more readily available
@WestumHjemmebryggeriКүн бұрын
The higher the FG, the longer barrel time it can handle 🙂 I’m always in the 1.050-1.070 FG area for my barrel beers and the longer barrel time will give it so much more interesting and complex flavors. And the tannins will balance out the sweetness.

@@WestumHjemmebryggeri 1.07!? That’s so high! What’s ur starting gravity on a beer like that?
@WestumHjemmebryggeriКүн бұрын
@ the one with FG 1.072 had a OG of 1.194 😅 ABV 16%

Holy cow!!! How did you get there!? What was the grain to water ratio? And did you use malt extracts to boost it?
@WestumHjemmebryggeriКүн бұрын
@ yeah I used a LOT of extract to save time (double mashing takes too long when I’m also gonna boil it for 6-7 hours). I made a «how to barrel age beer» video on my channel. From grain to finished result, so it shows my whole process
