Great video. Not sure if anyone has said it before, but just a suggestion. Fill all knots and cracks with epoxy resin til flush with the top first (may take 3/4 times to fill them), to eliminate bubbles, then your top coats. Will save you time and money, as you're not going to use as much top coat finish

In which case you have clearly never watched Blacktail Studio..Cam goes through every little detail meticulously, and places great emphasis on what will happen if you skip any steps. Nothing leaves his workshop unless he is satisfied that it is as perfect as possible. He even does master classes you can attend for first hand experience. This guy screwed this project up big time by not sealing the wood before pouring..the product isn't that great either, the top coat mixed up far too thick for this type of project, epoxy should always self-level.

Pro tip. seal your knots and cracks before you do seal coats. Saves you a ton of time. Just keep pouring epoxy, or CA glue if small enough, into the hole each day until it fills. If you catch pin holes in your clear seal coats, like at 40:34 , use clear CA glue to seal it and you wont have to deal with any more potential for air.

Lot of negative comments but have any of you negative Nellys ever done any of this kind of DIY or job before? He got the bubbles, and ripples out and sanded off the drips under the edge, it took extra clear coats but it still looked good! But wouldn’t it have been better to have put in those bars before you poured? I did my own countertop and I used alcohol to get out the bubbles.

When you tip the bottle of epoxy upside down to pour it in the bucket, you should pierce the bottom of the epoxy bottle, for a smoother flow from the bottle, no glugging air as the bottle is not trying to suck air and flow epoxy from the same hole, also you get less bubbles.

Could one add diamond dust to this pour without it being overkill on metallics? Also when Would you determine the need for metal braces in a table like that (or any table) to stabilize it from bending? Finally do you also seal the other side with epoxy or just the top and sides?
@merandareast2552

If you had used a penetrating epoxy to seal the wood to begin with you wouldn’t have had all those bubbles. You could also have filled the knot holes and irregularities first to avoid the insane amount of sanding and repouring you had to do.

Never glue in C-channel support. It should only be slightly hand tightened with bolts (use threaded inserts) to allow your wood move with seasonal changes. Heat, humidity, barometric pressure, air conditioning, etc will cause your wood to expand and contract over time. It's perfectly okay and natural but you have to allow it move, locking it in place with steel will lead to cupping and warping problems over time.

Another way to reduce the bubbles in your Epoxy layers is to stick the mixing bucket into a Vacuum Pot and pull a PARTIAL vacuum (NOT a full one, Epoxy can sometimes react badly in a full vacuum) until it stops fizzing, then pour it in/on your project...
