my guess for what happened with the weird stain is some oils got spilled on it at some point (maybe when it was cut fresh) and it was so deeply imbedded it just came up. that or natural oils from the pecan wood.
@digimbyte Жыл бұрын
thanks I hate it. the gold legs with the crystal rock effect is ugly. would have been nicer with a more red dye on the legs, and use a blue dye in the epoxy rather than black, its too cloudy and dark

I can't say I love that texture in the epoxy. I think you did an awesome job. And it looks like you executed your vision extremely well. But that wood has such interesting visuals already, it seems like the busyness of the epoxy detracts from it. Amazing job, as usual.

Too high humidity or oil on the surface of the wood could cause the waviness. Since it was so spongey, maybe the oils from your hand stuck around 🤷♀️ I can't imagine it being that humid in your shop
@hadensnodgrass3472 Жыл бұрын
My guess was there was bug(s) that dried up and died inside the wood. The high temperature of the epoxy freed the oils, and they floated to the surface.

I would have preferred to have a darker stain on the legs, but that is just my own preference, I think it still came out nice. I like the cell look, I wonder how it would look if one part was a colored epoxy and then it was covered in a clear coat? Like a blue or a red to contrast with the wood? You talking about pecan pi like that is making me want actual pecan pie, which is sad since I just got my grocery shopping done yesterday, I guess I will have to hold off my craving until next week. I loved that you talked about pecan wood in general, I always wondered why I never see anything made with it, I didn't know it was such a difficult wood to work with until this video. I also loved that you tried so many new things with this table. Thank you for the video.

Looks amazing! I will copy that bubble technic 😀 Ah, and one thing to add: When carving outside of the shop all the dust will be blown into the enviroment and easily stay there for the next 100years (epoxy is extremly durable). I know it's alotta dirt, but doing it inside and then cleaning would be way more friendly to the plant we leave for our kids🤗

Loved the carved out 'scallops' which once filled and the colours, look like enlongated crocodile/alligator scaling. I make epoxy floorings for a living. From my experience whenever i had some kinds of wavey textures it was because of moist or greasy surface. 2nd option can also be that the wood is still sucking up the epoxy while in the drying/reacting process. When some areas of the wood are still more denser than rotting parts, it means that different areas suck up more or less epoxy than the healthy denser areas. (Sorry for bad explanation, im not English)
