Huggy Wuggy is a giant, blood-thirsty blue toy from the indie horror game Poppy Playtime. He creepily wanders around an abandoned toy factory hoping to catch you, give you a big hug, and bite your face.
In our past DIY animatronic projects, we would typically take a Halloween animatronic from somewhere like Spirit Halloween, Home Depot, or Lowes. Since their new 2023 Halloween collections haven’t been released yet, we decided to try making an animatronic completely from scratch. We built Huggy Wuggy’s skeleton from PVC pipe, and we used a windshield wiper motor for his motion. His head was sculpted out of Styrofoam and the whole thing was covered with fluffy blue fur. We got to use our new Hot Wire tools to cut the foam and they worked really well. Highly recommend you check them out if you do a lot of foam carving. It’s been an engineering challenge trying to get him balanced and moving how we want him to, but we’re very happy with the result.

Despite the minor setbacks, this definitely has to be the most accurate Huggy Wuggy animatronic ever. I think it has to do with the lightning, but it's almost terrifying how he looks exactly like he does in game and from the game's poster. I can't express how much I love this and I look forward to seeing more amazing projects such as this. Perhaps even making Mommy Longlegs, Bunzo Bunny, or Poppy herself. Keep up with your passion projects!

Here’s a tip for eyes, I like what you did for that shine but something else you can do is put a thin layer of UV Resin on top of it, of course that wouldn’t work here since it is paper

This looks amazing! If you want a little tip, use a little hot glue between his teeth for the saliva and like, connect it to each teeth (if you want a little reference look at north of the border, he does clay projects with glue saliva)

When sewing fur, use 1/4” seam allowances and zigzag the seams together. This is similar to real furrier seams. The fur doesn’t get caught in the seam, and the narrow seams are more fluid and “invisible”.

If y'all ever do a Huggy v2, I'd suggest using rings cut from a pool noodle and strung together using some fishing line sewn through them to beef out the arms a bit while still allowing them to swing freely. 😉 also to make the mouth look a little bit better maybe a latex coating that is painted over with regular black paint between the rows of teeth and the Musou Black paint behind the innermost teeth... Just to give the appearance that his mouth is an actual entrance to hell 😈which (much like a blackhole) even light can not escape. Y'all did an amazing job. 😄 That being said, I think that if you made these slight changes it might make Mr. Huggy even more realistic-looking👍
