This video shares how to make a movie location quality old western ghost town water tower storage tank facade. In this behind the scenes prop making part 1 video we begin the last build for the old western town by fabricating the water tower tank which will set up on top of a 8' stand. A water trough will connect and spill water over a water wheel and then into a 64' sluice trough for kids to pan for gold. First I draw some circles on some 3/4" plywood and cut them out with a jigsaw. I use 2" x 4" boards for the inside framing to give the three plywood circles structure. Last I cut several redwood fence boards with beveled angle cuts on the two outsides with a table saw and shoot them around the outside of the tank using a pneumatic nail gun. I use steel banding to give it some extra strength and the right look of a water tower.
