It's been 12 years since we adopted our sons, Jude & Liam from Ethiopia, and we have been trying for the last 3 years to be able to bring them back for their heritage trip to truly celebrate and experience the beauty of their birth culture. But after all the waiting, we finally made it! We started out celebrating the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival with Penelope & Lincoln, which was a total blast in our new home - our favorite moon festival yet! Then we were off! Can't believe we are here and can't wait to see the boys' faces as they experience this stunning culture again after so many years!
When we talked with Jude & Liam about this trip, they wanted one of the big goals of this trip to be helping empower 100 families to stay together through Help One Now's Business Empowerment Program! When families have a way to make a living and take care of their children, they no longer feel the need to give them up for adoption. They can preserve their family and the orphan crisis can be over. i got to visit my orphanage in india . most emotional experience i’ve been through. closed adoption so didn’t and still don’t really know who or where im from. but i remember the girls at my orphanage and they had to sign out in a book just so they could go into the city in mumbai. and i smiled at all of them when they passed by me and signed out. but i bawled my eyes out once the last girl left through the door. bc that could’ve been me. it’s an all girls orphanage too. once you age out, you can either choose to get married, or to work. and working is just being a maid in someone else’s household. im so blessed bc that could’ve been me. this is why i love and admire ur family so much. all your kids are going to be amazing (:
