Those transfer rollers are a great idea. I have rolling plantation shutter doors that scrape the wall when sliding them in and out. I think those slides might help with that. THANKS!

A lot of people are commenting the drawer slide might not be strong enough to hold the door. It looks plenty strong. However, if it's not, the door could be remade much lighter, with cheap materials instead of plywood. Eg, paneling, insulation foambard, pegboard, etc.

This for me, I share this with others because there nothing worst as something being the way when there is little space. When a barn door opens it does not get in the way as regular opening closet door. After it opens it is still not in the way. Many situations of this type, the best answer is a barn door. A kitchen pantry, a small bathroom, a door that opens into the hallway that now no one can pass by until the door is closed again. 😮😮😮❤❤❤❤😊😊😊

I actually just purchased 2 heavy closet doors and I'm hoping with only myself doing this as you, I can do. The closet doors I purchased for $20 each from Market place, i got them at a steal. The woman didn't realize how expensive these doors are. I didn't realize they were heavy. They have lattice inserts on both sides and curtains. So I'm keeping them as is. Other than i might try putting a mirror on one and small rack to hold stuff.? Not sure. But paint them white instead of cream colored. This idea is so helpful. ❤ I hope it helps my doors. Not trying to be difficult, just genuinely curious about the longevity of this project. Doesn't the drawer track get pulled out of alignment over time as the weight of the "door" starts to pull down on the tracks since it wasn't designed to be used with 15-20lbs of weight pulling down in that direction? Hope not, but really want to know how long this would last running smoothly like this.

@@hanadr the slides we chose were for 250lb (so roughly half that for just one) and our door is probably under 50lb, but yeah the direction is a little different, so it’s possible it won’t last forever but worst case scenario the drawer slide breaks and we redo it with something else, and maybe have to buy a new mirror. The whole project was only $150 so worth a shot

You really need to work on your base boards (make them natural or soft contrast, and make your attic entrance seamless - that will really feel like a massive upgrade and much easier than the barn door.

I absolutely believe paint would affect how the door slides. And the visible door slide really doesn't look that bad, imo. Not to mention, you added the door so you could close it, instead of seeing the inside of the closet, so it's gonna be closed 95% of the time anyway.

This is renters friendly assuming you have put any screws or nails in your walls. I rent as well and hang up pictures and shelves, etc. Small holes caused by a few nails or screws are very easy to patch before moving out.
