For on road use the Torque converter should hold up just fine. You can gear it even a little higher then too and get a better cruising RPM. I'd rather replace a belt every 200 miles than a motor. Also, the catch can w/ return hose should be implemented. You can prefill it with a little oil so you keep the correct amount of oil in the engine at all times. The crank case pressure is just going to go up on a motor like that and you will start pumping out more and more oil.

Fair experiment with the clutch - but a properly setup CVT should work just fine as well. Snowmobiles run that type of setup (primary/secondary), and they can run the miles without belt issues.

Hey John…. You know you can actually EXTEND the 3/4” Crankshaft to better accommodate the alternator pulley just by drilling out a piece of 3/4” Keyed Stock and installing a long 5/16-24 bolt through the keyed stock and into the end of the crankshaft. Be sure to align the keyway with the crankshaft keyway and install a longer 3/16” KEY to keep the shaft and extension in line. I’ve done this on several applications requiring extra pulleys for accessory drives such as an alternator.

They probably forgot that alternators produce AC, so they need a rectifier before the voltage regulator. They were trying to measure AC (probably 100volts un-regulated) with the meter set to DC so therefore getting no reading.

Get a transmission off a Polaris 4 wheeler, I don’t know exactly what size would work best, but I’m thinking a 90cc two stroke, and just chop off the rest of the 2 stroke block and use just the transmission. You may need a cage and a pilot bearing on the primary clutch tho, place it above the engine, install a torque converter on it. It gives you reverse and even a L and H range, not that it’s really necessary. Also you can run the alternator off this in a little better way, and acceleration and top speed will be improved a lot. And mount a fan on the secondary clutch and put a cover on it to draw thru. This will keep air circulating and keep the belt cool so it doesn’t wear. Just make extra sure your cover doesn’t get a lot of dust in it bc that obviously accelerates wear as well
@jimmywhitlow7174
@jimmywhitlow7174 2 жыл бұрын
Why would you need to use a torque converter with a transmission?
@rammatic7881
@rammatic7881 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmywhitlow7174 You could run a centrifugal clutch, but you need some way of clutching (obviously) and the thing about a torque converter you may or may not know, is they are “constantly variable” which means the faster you go it changes the ratio to allow for a higher top speed. The transmissions I was mentioning are just direct drive gear transmissions, maybe gearbox is a better term. It’s just a set ratio, but mainly I suggest using it bc it will allow for use with the torque converter, also then it should eliminate the need for an extra set of reduction on the Jack shaft. It’s just an idea that came to mind. If they gave me the bike exactly how it is I’m 100% confident I could fabricate what I’m talking about. I think it would be worth it for the acceleration and higher cruising speed. Plus it would be damn unique and cool

Hey guys, just a couple of ideas to throw at your way. First thing, how about possibly putting a torque converter on the bike. I believe it would help with the bottom end power and geared correctly, you should get your 65 mph cruising speed for the highway riding. I just wanted to take a moment and share some thoughts with you guys, that might help the bike 🏍 become an all around better cruising bike. Keep up with the amazing and exciting adventures and builds. We love them all. May GOD Bless you all.

Before your trip you need a spare clutch jic and a ram mount for your phone so you can have a speedometer right there on the handlebars. Keep up the cool builds maybe you should later on build the engine with billet parts to make it shiny and might give you a higher rpm range but idk just a suggestion.

i agree with a couple of the comments i saw, if you made it have a dual clutch (2 speed) setup on this it could cruise to 50 at much lower rpm and your takeoff would be slightly better, having a smaller sprocket for the high speed and a larger one for low speed, you have plenty of room with the engine being that small and it would be cool to see

Speaking about torque converter vs clutch, i think your issues with the torque converter are caused by it not having a clutch but just letting the belt slip when idling and when you start from a stop. Torque converters have losses because the spring pushes on the belt and causes more friction, and if the spring itself is too hard it can actually cause the belt to fail faster as it's much more stressed and will wear out faster. My recommendation is to make a torque converter with a clutch, just like all scooters makers do. I know it takes more space, but it would make the setup complete and give you all the advantages of the torque converter with much less reduced wear on the belt (when tuned correctly) and better pick-up from a standstill. But you have to make sure the belt is always tight between the plates and there's no slip. Also, maybe try to use kevlar belts if you aren't doing that already (and if they're even available in those sizes)? They're used in high performance scooters in Italy as they should be stronger than regular belts.

Loved the video, currently planning to do a 212 swap on a 1972 Suzuki TS-90. I have been beating my head around on how to do the electrical charging, and found a lot of motivation from this video. I do plan on using a TAV2 unit, however. The best idea I have is to get a pulley that is slightly larger than the outermost edge of the driver pulley, and cutting the inner diameter of the pulley to completely allow the domed portion of the driver through, and weld it to the flat edge. This video led me to that, will be sharing my results, thanks!

I would take exception to your premise that the torque converter would have slip. Once it is up to cruising rpm the driver and driven pulleys should be at maximum travel and locked into fixed position with no belt slip. My Polaris has a belt that has been running for the last 5yrs with hundreds of miles on it. The torque converter would allow even taller gearing to help with high rpms at cruising speed. I built a ts100 like this with a 5horse Briggs mounted on top of the crankcase so I could use the five speed gear box and it run forty five on hwy.

If you already have a belt system set up, you may as well throw a supercharger on there. That and some sort of gear setup, maybe like the one you revived at go power sports a while ago

If you can set the tq converter up right it should be fine you'll still have to change belts but not enough to worry about it not on a road trip anyway

Thinking a Harley transmission might be a perfect fit. No cvt and take off torque as well as top end. Maybe? Awesome build. I really enjoy watching everything you do.

Loving the bike content. Stick a catch can/crank return on it & forget about it. Charles is a very cool guy & a great addition 👍 *edit , I was hoping the extra belt in the thumbnail was a supercharger 😂😂

I dont know why but this is one of the coolest projects you guys have done in a while. Maybe because it doesn't have splatter paint? IDK? But I'd like to see you guys do this with 3 cr 80 frames or something like that and get all your youtube buddy's do the same and have a race!
