Making your own soil. I think that's downright amazing! It would be SO rich in nutrients.

We were a bit surprised with this one as well. We knew it would eventually happen, but not expecting it that fast!

@4:50, was that caliche? As the world famous Lurch (Adams Family) was wont to say, Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh. Caliche bad! Very bad! In the new trench, it's 5 inches under the surface. this is manmade, not natural, and probably took 50-60 years to form, but while not thick, it will keep roots from going deep! When you see sorghum wilting, you got trouble. A cactus planted in that bed almost died for root rot because the bed had to be watered often. BTW, second oldest daughter was a show-in for Wednesday Adams when 11. When a teen she went Goth (place Lurch quote here). Love this, watching soil dug, built, and mulched. the planting is always great.
@EdgeofNowhereFarmАй бұрын
Glad you enjoyed this one Martin. That material you saw was actually potting soil from the other tree from what I could tell. The caliche is a bit further down for us in that spot.

We usually have them in Spring and Fall, so the weather is a bit more comfortable. Hopefully we'll see you one of these times. 😉

Great video as always. Was awesome to have you pull my ticket first that day for some of your wine :) Those kennels you have for the dogs, where did you find those and approx how much is each one? Thanks!!!
@EdgeofNowhereFarmАй бұрын
I was glad to see you snag one of those bottles of wine Eric. You've been here with us for a LONG time so you're invested in this place! Oh and the kennels are from Tractor Supply. I'll link to them for you here; www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/stephens-pipe-steel-dog-kennel-10-ft-w-x-10-ft-l-x-6-ft-h They're usually right at $400, but they go on sale for $350 from time to time.

Also This is a good time to do some transplanting? I have a pear tree and a fig that need to go in the ground and thought maybe I had to wait till spring.
@EdgeofNowhereFarmАй бұрын
You would probably still be ok if you do it right now. We usually try to get it done in October, but you can also wait until Spring.
@BrianBowman-NSBАй бұрын
Can you create soil during the winter months of Arizona? Like Now in November?
@EdgeofNowhereFarmАй бұрын
As long as you're mulching heavy you should still see soil production in the Winter months here. It's slower than summer time, but it still happens.
@JayDentonDDSАй бұрын
Where did you get the fencing for the kennels? We are looking for something to make some more space for our chickens but still keeping them enclosed.
@EdgeofNowhereFarmАй бұрын
We bought those from Tractor Supply. I'll link to them for you here; www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/stephens-pipe-steel-dog-kennel-10-ft-w-x-10-ft-l-x-6-ft-h
