I hate how almost everything what were popular in the 2000s tuner scene is just called "rice" today. The scene was different, but not rice! It's not always about performance - remember how many people have a kind of carbonfiber fetish nowadays, how they get excited if something completely irrelevant is made out of carbonfiber. Maybe that will be called "rice" in the future. But I admit, there were a lot of stupid things like an autozone plastic blower or a huge exhaust when the car only made 100 HP. But YOU have to admit, that there were a lot of creative things in the 2000s. Like the neon - it might seem flashy at first sight but notice how Grog was surprisingly impressed by it on his own car here? It just looks cool in the night. And remember airbrush? When was the last time someone you know got their car airbrushed? It's basically a very artistic tattoo for the car. Awesome. And you can't tell me that's rice when so many people (also tuners) get their own skin tattooed. And you don't believe me when I tell you perfomance was a big thing in the 2000s? Just grab an old tuner magazine and look. I'm sure you'll find a sick build sooner or later. So in conclusion, the 2000s scene was different, but not rice. And the tuner cars looked much less boring than today. Today we got no vinyls, no airbrush, maybe a few stripes, that's it. No artists making their work on cars anymore. Today's tuners only strive for perfomance and they want their car to be "clean", if you do something slightly else, you are called a ricer. Crazy times we live in.
