For the finishing, use a self leveling finish if you are going to use a brush. You should also do multiple coats, sanding lightly between coats. This will take out any imperfections in the finish.

With your large-format printer at Bunker Branding, could you take a picture of your "tiled beauty" and then print it out to place in different spots to see how it would look? It seems that moving a banner from place to place would be a *_BIT_* easier than lugging 400# of tile and lumber around to different locations.

I just wrote a comment eluding to these very points. It's one thing to watch an interesting project, but it's another when you watch a couple ENJOY working on projects together to help improve, decorate, etc. their home. It truly is a stunning piece of real estate. I can also say though, that when the weather is great, it's likely heavenly there. However, being on top of a mountain in bad weather is not somewhere I envision myself wanting to be!

For polyurethane: Don't shake it before you use it, just a light stir, and use a soft bristle brush or a foam roller with fibers. Works best for me, keeps the bubbles from forming in the first place.

3 ideas for placement of tile picture. 1. Outside near the grilling area or something, maybe under an awning of some sort as you didn't waterproof though, but great talking point place for parties 2. in the guest bathroom, for great talking piece. 3. along some hallway that guests would frequent and could then ask you about it. All places that wouldn't take over the feel of a main room, but people could still see it and talk about it!

Mere, you (and Matt) never cease to impress me with all the things you know how to do, and do well. I love watching the two of you work on projects like this! I remember well when you made all kinds of other things in your former barn/shop. It's impressive to see what you two are able to pull together! I guess it likely helps to have all the necessary tools, and a place to use them. The mural turned out great. I love the frame you made. I'm excited to see how it looks in the house. UPVOTE SO MATT CAN SEE: If you haven't done it already just take a bit of material off each board on the 'inside' making the frame a bit thinner. It'll bridge the gap and save you buying any new timber.

the reason the trim didn't match after Matt cut is be cause the grout pushed the tiles apart, if you watch the video the tiles are very close together with the tiny spacers, which is when the measurements were made for the trim. look at how separated the tiles are after the fact.

Matt I use to be an electrician for custom homes in CA. This was many years ago and I don't know exactly how everything worked, I use to pull wire, trim out a house wiring up 2,3, and 4 way switches. But on some houses we did, we installed these panels in some of the rooms to have access to turn on and off all lights throughout the house from a single room. This was back in the early 2000's so I'm sure you can have a tablet mounted in each room to do the same thing instead of manually pushing buttons

Hi Matt! If you have any paint/coatings questions you can always get ahold of me as I'm a coatings expert (I work in sales for a paint manufacturer) and specialize in wood finishes as well! Bubbles in a varnish will show up if you brush/roll too fast. It will also happen if the varnish was shaken immediately before use (think within a day). Sand it back using 150-220 grit sandpaper and you can also buff it out using scour pads. Please don't ever put heat to a coating again, especially oils as it will: 1. Most likely blush or lift the coating or 2: start on fire which is not fun either.

If you rip the inside edge of the trim on a table saw the length will be longer and fit. You just have to trim the backer to the new size. You'll have to re miter the corners but yeah, that will work.

That is what I was thinking, most folks who don't have a carpentry background don't understand half of those terms tho lol.

Love the open dishwasher door too. I get eaten on all the time about that even if I didn't do it. Put timers in place of light switches. There are motion activated switches also. Also even smart switches and outlets that we just tell Google to do whatever w/ as required. I love them. Even if lights get left on they turn off all by themselves or we tell them what to do.. However sometimes they turn off while you are still "using" them. The timers and sensors have "STOPPED" the griping at our house. My favorite is the I hear a thunk in the night. Hey Google turn on everything, and everything turns on, in our case it includes lights on the outside of house too. You have lots of options here my friend.

Please re-tile the tiles with a darker grout so the white lines doesn't stand out so much. (it makes the motive look kinda like its behind a grid). Then, take a high quality photo of it and make it into a poster. I really think more people than me would love to have that on the wall, both as a tiny piece of the mansion and as a cool picture.

Thanks for shopping at Home Depot. My family has a LOT of Home Depot stock we bought in the early 1990s. Every time you buy at Home Depot helps us. LOL

Cutting on the wrong side of the line causes trim to never fit. A quick fix is to take a darker stained wood strips about 1/8" to 1/4" width and use it as a filler in each corner. It makes a common mistake look planned. If your strip is taller than the trim it gives a different look but it is all good. Just make each corner the same.

That was my idea too...black, solid black, in each corner, but have the gent who built their table do it.

They'll fall off first time it moves. Pick a wall. Tile said wall. I'm Canadian, and worked in Montana for a month twenty something years ago. Just wiring, PLCs, waiting, and programming. Living in a hotel, driving a rental car, eating whatever local restaurants had to offer. Expense account! February. Lots of other workers around, most rode to work on long track sleds, for an hour. They shot at empties for lunch. Without mentioning, day 3, and I'm gifted a home cooked meal. Next day a guy brought a 1911 for me to enjoy at lunch time. Different guy brought a different pewpew every day. One loaned me an old sled for the month. Invited to different homes for dinner many nights. Gladly bought all the leftover tickets for a draw, and won an International Harvester Garand. My favourite. I'm still in touch with some, that keep me abreast of the others. Turns out they were so friendly because they knew I wouldn't move there, too many people per square mile. If anyone asks if you want to move to Montana, think hard about it. Figure out for yourself it's the best thing to do. When you get there, keep to yourself, someone will approach you sooner or later. It's really nearly as friendly as being in a lot of Canada. Without a magazine restriction.
