Theoretically you could do data-in once and do several hashes from it but the miner isn’t set up to do that. To answer your question - I’m not sure!

Thanks so much! mcschematic would've probably been our backup if we couldn't get our lectern system to work. It probably would've been a good idea to use when testing it out as well, because we had to check a LOT of 32 bit numbers by hand. I'll definitely check it out for future projects! To add to Arma's reply, there's definitely room to speed things up, and it MIGHT be possible to run more than one hash in the same machine (although it'd be very complicated).

So technically speaking, if someone builds this machine on a public Minecraft server, does that mean that they’ve installed a mining virus on someone else’s computer?
@andrewferguson690115 күн бұрын
Only the server actually has to do the calculating, everyone else is just stuck rendering. And it's not a virus because it doesn't self propagate. But yes, IN THEORY you could make a bitcoin miner on someone else's server and use their cpu to mine bitcoin very very very poorly. Of course, admin could just ban you and take your machine. Or blow it up with TNT to make a youtube video after you spent 400 hours building. Overall, you're probably going to find more success doing it the old fashioned way and hijacking a WordPress blog with a soft password and putting an invisible Javascript miner to run on unsuspecting visitors

The crazy thing is that I started working on the same project like 4 years ago, tried many different methods for rotates and tried binary and hex (signal strength) data too. I also ended up on the exact solutions you guys did :D I didn't know about that instant comparator priming trick in the adder, thats super clever. I'm disappointed I didn't have the determination to finish the project alone, but I am super hyped someone else did :) Great job guys! I honestly don't think racing against the network average block time makes sense (especially that you won't know if someone already succeeded earlier, so you will be in a delay whenever that is the case) but it's a nice goal you guys achieved. I think if you want to improve this build, your benchmark of performance should be hashes/second (or rather seconds/hash), just like real life ASICs. If you would actually try to improve this beast and need more nerdy hands to help you please don't hesitate to hit me up, I'd gladly help. Very well explained and simplified the underlying mechanics imo. Great video!
