Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. While daily vlogging was not the original plan, we were having way too many cool experiences not to share every single day! Now travel vlogging is our full-time gig, and we feel like we have the greatest job in the world! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
We’ve pulled inspiration from several of our favorite travel vloggers on KZbin, such as: +Casey Neistat +FunForLouis +Jon Olsson +Mr Ben Brown, and any other talented travel vloggers that KZbin’s algorithm will hopefully connect us with ;)

OMG, I had almost the exact same experience several years ago. I missed my flight out of CLT while sitting in Starbucks. That Starbucks must be a vortex for flight delays 🤣 ! In my case, I had set my laptop's time to central time as I had been working with a client in CST that week. I sat down in Starbucks, opened the laptop to work and thought, 'oh, I have PLENTY of time!'. Fortunately, it was the middle of the afternoon with a few more half-empty flights going to my destination. Once I realized I had missed my flight, I sheepishly approached the US Airways customer service desk (back when US Air existed), and asked if they could get me on another flight. Because of my status, they accommodated me without any additional charge. Travel tip - never be afraid to ask for help and always reset your time zones before traveling!

The problem with standby is that if the flights overbook (which they usually do) they could be there literally all day waiting to get on a flight. They can only get on a plane if they have two seats open. Standby can suck!

Glad you guys got out! My moms a flight attendant so I fly standby all the time.. its not fun. I was just at LAX and with all the cancellations on the east coast everyone was just trying to get everywhere, I was the last person to get a seat on standby thankfully on the red-eye home to Chicago. My favorite part about standby is going to the airport and not getting on at all and going home or getting a hotel.

Ok, I'm a few years late here....we all miss our flight at some point. My first time missing my flight happened due to a snowstorm in Boston in January 1991, I got to Dallas 2 hours late...so Delta hooked me up with a flight on American and I got to Portland, OR at 2 am Pacific...or 5 am Eastern. Almost 22 hours after I was scheduled to leave Boston, but didn't until 4 pm Eastern. Anyways...it happens. last time for me was in Atlanta...on a puddle jump to Asheville, NC in 2003....this one was all Delta....and they KNEW I was late because of them from Dallas. Didn't matter...I watched my plane pull away from the gate in Atlanta. Then I walked over to the customer service desk and made them pay for my rental car. Drove to Asheville (had lunch at the Varsity on the way). Got there 2 hours earlier than if I had waited for the next flight (which would have been standby). Yeah...we all have stories. LOL I have a few more of course...but I won't drop that here.

Oh I know the feeling! I once missed the flight, too, for exact same reason. I sat too long in a cafe and thought I have enough time to go through security etc. But it took much longer that time and I missed by a min. Had to to pay a fee and take the next flight which was next morning.. At least I got to go home and didn’t have to sleep in the airport. The bright side in your situation might be that you didn’t miss the first two fights. Coz that would mean you probably miss the following flights as well.. Which would have been a bigger mess to deal with. ;) I like how you try to stay positive in every situation. 👍

First time ever flying standby in 2 years of traveling?!? That in itself is amazing! Flying standby makes you experience the widest range of emotion ever (see in this video) because you are nervous about the uncertainty of when you will fly out, but when your name is called you are washed in a wave of happiness and joy as you walk onto the plane.

You must have been the only 2 full commercial passengers on standby - the others probably airline staff. It's so exciting to travel 'standby' - you just never know which flight you'll end up on or which country you'll go via to get home when desperate eg. Honolulu - Tokyo to get to Sydney. Gotta love that!

K&N little tip about standby travel coming from an American Airlines employee......at a hub (CLT MIA PHL PHX DFW ORD LAX JFK LGA) always go to the gate for stand by regardless what the passenger count is.....its a hub, sometimes connection flights are late coming in and that opens seats on outbound flights.....I fly non-rev stand by all the time......

Did miss a flight a few years ago myself. Was checked in early for the flight but missed the gate change for Air Canada flight from Toronto to Saskatoon. An early morning flight turned into a 16 hour layover. Never did that again lol

After watching so many of your videos I’m surprised this is the first time you’ve missed a flight. Lol. Love your videos btw!

In regards to where you hold your spot for stand by is based off of the time stamp (original time you checked in). The people behind you on the list could had been airline employees waiting for a seat and you get first priority.

Charlotte is like my 'home' airport. I've flown in / out of there more than anywhere else. I know how uncomfortable a place it is. In fact, I just flew Charlotte to Nashville and returned just this past month (June of 23). Can't believe you waited until that close to home to miss a flight. Leave it to Nate to find a positive learning experience in your ordeal. Love y'all!

I once slept on the floor of the Kuala Lumpur airport overnight. I, too, was absolutely freezing (that darn A/C!) and was sleeping on the hard floor. Thankfully I had Bose headphones too...they were a lifesaver. Wishing you both the best in 2018!

I missed my first flight ever in 20 years of traveling last year by doing the same thing. Confusing the take off time with the boarding time, sitting at a Starbucks catching up on work emails. It was my third and last flight coming back from Chile, so I blamed it on jet lag. United put me on the next flight with a seat, but the next flight wasn't full. I have the lowest status with United, so I think that helped. I hope I never have to know first hand how standby works, as it's a horrible feeling knowing that you caused your own delay home! Happy New Year! P.S. I really enjoy your vlogs!
