Hi guys, I am Alex.
I am an Ukrainian expat who moved to Portugal.
No one in my family ever did any farming, But I discovered that I am very passionate about farming so recently I've purchased this 28 hectares Farm in Central Portugal, with the intention to start a small scale farm raising worms, cattle and sheep.
In this little farm I am also planning to build an off grid home, and be as self sufficient as possible, by growing my own food.
I created this channel to share my journey with the world, The journey of a first generation farmer, that is starting with no prior knowledge and experiences.
That maybe all the mistakes that I will make along this journey, and all the fails maybe will help some of you to learn from my mistake and not make them yourself.
I want to bring value and inspire people who are thinking about farming.
I am not a filmmaker or an editor, I am just a simple guy with a camera.
So if it is interesting to you, subscribe to the channel and you will not miss the upcoming episodes.

That’s great news. We were all worried about her baking in all that wool in the Portuguese summer! Any plans on getting her a companion? Where I come from we are taught that sheep as well as goats are herd animals-they don’t do as well when alone. She’s such a beautiful, gentle creature. 🥰

This bird is called a hoopoe in English. According to the Oxford Dictionary, it is 'a salmon pink Eurasian bird with a long downcurved bill, large erectile crest, and black-and-white tail.' Before it became extinct in the 16th century it was largely flightless as per fossil remains. Hoopoes migrate to the tropics in winter,so they do fly.

Great to see you and your father working so well together. My daughter is Carissa from Frankie on the road and that is how I found your channel through your comment. Hi Nicky, Thank you for the feedback and support! This is so wonderful to hear, Carissa is an incredible person, And I am sure her mother is as well. Yes you are absolutely right, there is an amazing KZbin community here, Few days ago I met with Nick and Andrea from Project Portugal, wonderful people. And I would be pleased to meet more of the community, this has actually been a goal of mine from the begining of this channel to make a healthy "Foreigners" community in this region, where people help each other, and pass knowledge one to another. That could've been a very great thing. I hope you can achieve your wish, and come to help your daugther, I am sure she will be very glad and happy.

Your dad did such a beautiful job with the windowsill ! Loved the bird and also seeing Angela inspecting your work. Sometimes birds just get exhausted and need to rest, glad you managed to take care of her and keep her safe. (I've looked after several exhausted pigeons here in London, one stayed over night and was ready to leave in the morning). Oh My Word to how you moved that wall, darm well done!

Hoopoe is common name for Upupa epops. Hoopoes measure from 27 to 30 cm (10 1/2 - 12 in.) bill to tail. They are primarily ground feeders and use their long, slender and slightly curved bills to probe for large insects, worms, and lizards. Less frequently, the hoopoe feeds while airborne, exhibiting its characteristic undulating erratic flight. Hoopoes are excellent runners. Hoopoes frequent warm, dry areas, which are at least partially open. The nest is built in a tree cavity or a rock crevice, sometimes lined with debris, or sometimes left bare. The female lays and incubates from four to six pale blue to olive coloured eggs per clutch and is fed during incubation by her mate. Both sexes care for the naked, helpless young. Many times, for all kinds of birds, the young will leave the nexs before they can fully fly or take care of themselves. The parents are usually nearby to look after them. I suggest observing for others nearby, and leave the bird near them.

Great Job Alex. You and your dad work well together and that can sometimes be very challenging. You might want to run some stainless steel wire between the two walls so it helps tie them together. Try and let the concrete lintel you are building above the window dry 3-4 days before you add to much more stones. Also lots of rebar with some rocks between them. Keep up the good work also you might want to rethink about trying to but drywall up against the stone wall as it will gather moisture from the stone and get moldy. Better to point all the cracks with morter then plaster the interior walls all the exterior cracks will also need to be pointed. You may want to contact some of your other Portuguese KZbin content people for there advise. Nick or Theo there are good people to contact.

Awesome work on the beautiful wall. Maybe the bird was inside on the rock because it was in a cooler place. I looked up the bird, it is a Eurasian hoopoe. Using what you have already is just common sense. Once you remove the wood braces is when you can reveal all your hard work. Like the use of different colors of stone. Great job!

I see that above all the doorways and the windows, there seems to be a condemned triangular window. It looks like it was the original design. You could consider restoring them. Perhaps for light, ventilation, or even birdhouses (as they are now).

THANK YOU, for taking care of the bird that (without being sure) appears to be a species of woodpecker (note: the species of woodpecker that inspired Walt Disney's drawing has been declared extinct! 😟) Congratulations!... for using "QUANTUM MECHANICS" to straighten "stone wall" 😜 LOL, Angelica seems to be jealous of the attention you guys give to the rocks on the wall... so she tried to fit into the wall 😁😁.

Amazing that these walls were probably constructed with mud or clay between the stones originally. And they’re still standing. And idea how old your ruin is? Thanks.

It would be nice if you had a question and answer live stream. Lots of questions we curious people have. I'm not certain, but it looked like Angela was sleeping with her head stuck in the hole in the wall. The bird was really beautiful.

Hi Pamela, I will definitely do some kind of a Q&A in the future. haha, Angela just found a good spot to put her head on )) and the little opening that she found was exactly her head size, she wasn't stuck, her head perfectly sat there :)

Hi Alex and Dad, the bird is a Whoopoo, they eat grubs, insects. Usually the parent shows it how to eat. Watered lawns they feed on,the bill goes deep and pulls out the grub. My walls are 3ft at the bottom and taper as the go to the roof. It's 200 years old. Cool in the summer, nice thick walls. Angelica is doing an amazing job looking after yous both. You'll need a few beers after all the hard work. Those stones aren't light. Amazing job and coming together nicely. Love your video Alex, your both good at stone jigsaws.
