Welcome to Canada!!!! You picked an excellent place to live, Calgary is very nice. I look forward to your video's especially as you approach winter. I live in Northern Ontario and we have severe winters, Calgary is mild by comparison but can be very snowy something to which you may not be familiar with. I recommend that you upgrade your footwear (boots that are waterproof, boots for extreme cold and proper hiking shoes). Same for outerwear (waterproof shell, layered coat and heavy coat for extreme cold). This way you have choices. Canadians are famous for constantly watching the weather forecasts soon you will understand why. You'll love it. PW

Thank you so much! I agree with you, I think Calgary is an amazing place to live. We did a lot of research and overall thought Calgary was the best choice and we’re so happy with the decision. I am interested to see how we will cope in the winter, and I sincerely appreciate your advice, and any other advice you send our way from now until next spring 😂🤪 I’ve got some winter clothes already, and a coat, hiking boots, snow boots, ski pants and loads of thermals!! So hopefully that helps and then I’ll buy whatever else we need to get thru it! I hope you enjoy the rest of our Canada videos coming up over the next few weeks too!! Thank you for taking the time to comment! 😊

It would be great if it was a permanent move. We just have to see how it goes and if I can get approved for permanent residency. That’s a great meal idea!!!

Both the beans - and the tomatoes - in baked beans were cultivated and developed by native Americans. Heinz is also an American company. You'll find a few different brands of beans available, and a number of styles - Heinz do about ten different styles, though some are more regional. The beans sold in the UK are a bit more bland and a bit less sweet, however the concept of beans and mixing syrup, or molasses or lard or bacon is a practical one. Whether you are a pioneer, a homesteader or a cowboy out on the trail, you would typically cook in one pan over an open fire, and could only carry or store food that didn’t require refrigeration. Beans can be carried dried, they’re light, they’re small and provide good sustenance. A bit of cured meat - like bacon could be carried and would add a lot of flavour. Things like syrups are self preserving, add flavour and add calories, which is what you needed for a tough day on the trail. Maple syrup is just our national sweetener, just as the Greeks use honey. It is something that has been available to us forever, and available without the need to be imported. I’ve heard Brits who think that’s pretty funny, but unlike the UK, we didn’t have 300yrs of slavery to set up and exploit foreign countries to grow sugar cane.

@@adrianmcgrath1984 thank you so much for sharing this info! I am a history major and studied the British Empire and imperialism quite broadly, but I didn’t get the opportunity to learn about Native American history, including that of Canada. I was fortunate to visit a museum in Alberta last year which detailed the relationship between colonials and indigenous, and the fur trade in the 19th century and learned a lot more. I am always eager to learn as much as I can, so again, I appreciate you. I guess in a more recent cultural context, Heinz beans are associated with British “Full English Breakfast” which is mostly what I was referring to in this video. But of course, as you mention, the company is American and beans are used in all sorts of cuisines. Thank you again for taking the time to comment!

@@TipsyTofuTravels I was born and raised in the UK, but moved to Canada many years ago. One of the first things I learned after leaving the UK was that British education has quite a slant on it. Despite the way native Americans were portrayed as savages, without the help and knowledge of indigenous people, most settlers wouldn’t have done so well. Along with the beans and tomatoes, it was native Americans who had developed the potato and corn. These were things that were unknown in Europe.

I just found your channel and watched your Vegas series. I really enjoyed them, you both did an excellent job. I can’t wait for your next trip. Also welcome to Canada, I’m in Winnipeg but Calgary is beautiful just stay away from those cobra chickens ( Canada geese ) they will take your head off, especially when they have their babies.😊

Aw thank you so much! I’m pleased you enjoyed the Vegas series! It feels like it went on forever but I’m happy with how the vlogs turned out haha!! The next Vegas trip will be posted in the next few weeks for sure!! I’ve edited day 1 already but have a few more Canada videos to post first eeee!! 😝 I’d like to visit Winnipeg one day - would there be anything you recommend doing if we did? Haha yes! I kept a safe distance from the geese, but I fell in love with their babies and loved watching them grow over the weeks we lived near the Elbow river.🪿

@TipsyTofuTravels5 ай бұрын
Hahahaaha they sure are protective of the young but these guys seem quite comfortable around people. A lot of times I walked past this river and people would be chilling on the grass around the goslings and the adults and they didn’t seem to mind. I think they would be spooked at sudden movements 😂

As a Brit I can work in Canada for 2 years on a visa. And we just bit the bullet and went. Gives us more opportunity to travel this side of the world, and honestly we loved Canada when we first visited last year! So it all just fell into place, couldn’t be happier with our decision! We will be seeing you in Portland! I booked my flight yesterday!!! ✈️
