So I'm a big fan of the book series this is based on and I can tell you that when it first came out in Canada in 1904, there were genuine concerns from parents about the family dynamic of two siblings being parents together to a child. The original author, Lucy Montgomery, wrote in a private copy she gifted to a friend that this story is for unconventional families everywhere. She grew up in a conventional enough family but it was apparently not a very loving one. Being so lonely in her early life lead her to dream up stories about different kinds of families that could be happier than 'normal' families. Honestly a lot from this series and even the show come from her personal experiences in some kind of way. Even many the characters are based on real people she knew in her life.

I remember tearing up when Matthew called Anne his daughter. It was such a heartwarming moment, I'm surprised none of you got emotional over it. I've loved the show since it came out. 15:18 cordial is a kind of diluted juice we drink in the UK, it’s super common now it’s in almost every household that has kids but it was super rare when this show was set I’m pretty sure

Raspberry cordial is a non-alcoholic syrup. In the late 1800s, it would have been served mostly at picnis by pouring a little of the syrup into a glass and topping with cool water or lemonade. Nowadays, it's mostly used as a mixer in cocktails.

I love Anne with an E so much! It's such a good show, you learn a lot from it. That last scene with Anne signing her name in their bible is so cute, she finally has a family! She would be their daughter. ❤ You can see that Anne brings light into their home and it actually makes it feel like a home. I can't wait for you guys to see her story as it develops. Each episode gets better, can't wait for the next one.

They changed some things from the other version I watched and the books; there she is not asked to take on the Cuthbert name, she keeps being Anne Shirley, untill she is married, and in this version they added the drama of sending her away over the broche, originaly Marrilla just gets mad and grounds her till she tells the truth and maybe Anne is afraid they'll send her away(dont remember that exactly), but they dont, cause Marilla finds the broche before she does more about the matter, and she appologises to Anne. The characters feel the same with Matthew being the more quiet one with a heart of gold, Marilla being more strict/ferm, but lovely as well as we'll see, when the show moves forward, and Anne being a sweet lovely girl, really talkative and smart with a huge imagination, a flair for drama and a temper as well. There is one character; Gilbert, that I cant wait for you to meet, and I think you'll love him as well. I love Jonathan Crumbies version, but also Lucas Jade Zumann does a really good job portraying him.

I love this series. Anne is very talkative, but I believe she's this way due to trauma. She will stop thinking about bad things the more she talks and focuses on knew things and new ideas. It's very much a trauma response, and it breaks my heart.

It’s been a long time since I’ve watched it, but off the top of my head based on the clips, they don’t send her away over the broach (and none of the ensuing drama takes place). She gets grounded until she can “tell the truth”, and the big heartbreak for Anne is that she’s going to have to miss the Sunday school picnic. Also, she never takes on the name Cuthbert. She is Anne Shirley until she gets married. The overall personalities of the characters seem mostly the same.

Anne is one of my favorite book/film characters from when I was a kid. I really am curious about what you'd think about the difference between tv show Anne in comparison with the Anne in the film version from the 80's which was my first exposure to the character. She is definitely very whimsical and dramatic in both!! I really enjoyed your reaction to episode 2.
