A couple of suggestions if not said before. Always do the BLACK water tank first so the GRAY water contents will do some what of a job cleaning the drain hose. After the BLACK water tank is empty, put a little water back in tank and add one of the soap/deodorant "pods" to the tank. As you move, the water will slosh around and do just a little more to keep any remaining stuff from drying up.

FYI: "La Grange" is a song by the American rock group ZZ Top, from their 1973 album Tres Hombres. One of ZZ Top's most successful songs, it was released as a single in 1973 and received extensive radio play, rising to No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1974.[4] The song refers to a brothel on the outskirts of La Grange, Texas (later called the "Chicken Ranch"). The brothel is also the subject of the Broadway play and film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

As for dumping the tank, I've actually had a few discussions with a few folks in parks. I flush the same way you do. Theres an easy way to debunk the argument: when they are done "flushing", have them set a 1 minute timer, SHUT the black valve, and then open it in a minute while they watch what comes out. Never fails to educate by experience. I personally do 3 minute flushes, and I loathe factory flushes. If I buy a new rv or have to replace my black ta k in the future, its getting a camco tornado. FitRV did a video a few years back with a clear black tank he made just to show how different things work.

Always enjoy our videos. I'll make a couple of comments. On the gas over diesel pickup, I did due diligence on researching the differences on gas versus diesel when I bought my 1999 Ford F250V10 to pull my new Holiday Rambler Alumascape fifth wheel. I had the fifth wheel installed by an old and trusted local custom welding shop and in accordance with my wants it worked beautifully! I never ran out of an abundance of pulling power in the mountains, could make tight turns and it pulled level and with ease. I also used the clear coupler when dumping first my black tank, then flushed with gray water until there was no more yucky stuff in the hose. I also ran a few gallons of fresh water in my black tank when traveling so it would slosh around and hopefully help loosen up any residual left. I did exactly the same when I later bought a class A.

I never flush the tank with the valve open. The person who made that comment, pounding on the table screaming this way or no way. Is incorrect. You absolutely use the flush to fill and soak the tank. When you mix the Calgon and Pine Sol it will foam let it settle and fill the gallon jug. Empty the black tank and add a cup or two and make sure you let it get full before you dump. You can also use it in the gray tanks. If you don’t believe me look it up on KZbin.

We agree with your method for flushing the black tank. We always flush the tank by filling via the black tank flush on our class A. It usually takes two flushes for clear water with no particles. We have been doing this for over 30 years. With that said, if we know we are going to travel to another location where we can dump, we fill the black tank via the flush connection to about 3/4. The sloshing around during the drive to the next location does a pretty good job of cleaning the walls and hence we had never had a sensor issue in either of our class As. Please note, that we might not have same concern about weight capacity due to the extra liquid on board. We also use Motorola radios. We have had the same set of 5 radios since 2012. The kids use to carry them when they went exploring or to the park (before they had cell phones). They are still going strong.

I have flushed my black tank as you do. The amount of air displaced by the incoming water is less than the amount of air that can go through the black tank vent, thus the tank won’t over pressurize. I use a flow meter and an alarm on my watch to ensure I will not overflow the tank.

Hey folks , I'm sorry that you have to defend yourself with this video. Moving forward lol. La Grange is in reference to La Grange , TX. Dusty Hill of ZZ Top gave an interview to Guitar magazine ages ago regarding the reference. This is a family channel so I'll keep it PG rated here. It's actually in reference to a house of prostitution. There it's said 😂

Have you guys got to tour Jack Daniels? I used to take our college interns to JD in Lynchburg frequently. It's a cool tour. The grain company I work for used to supply approx. 75% of the grain to Jack Daniels, and I became pretty good friends with the Safety Director at Jack Daniels just before the companies decided to do different things and we sold all of our Grain elevators in Tennessee! Also, a Squire! :-) Great video, we are planning a Kentucky travel trip sometime in the near future.

Nice! No, that was the only tour that we took, due to timing, but I think a barrel tour would be neat! Rickery Tour??

Your black tank flush advice was spot on , I have a fifth wheel with a 39 gallon black tank and I usually just stand by and monitor the tank level indicator, so far this method hasn’t failed me , but I plan on purchasing a flow meter for accuracy. I have watched other RVers use the same methods that you have suggested 👍🏽 . Thanks for the great content .

I like the idea of plugging into the inverter,a second battery would make it for a weekend easily. As for the black tank I do the exact same thing with no problem.

It has worked pretty well! We pushed it too hard on our Arkansas trip, but we knew we were doing it at the time . Now we know where the line is at.

Cody, I do exactly what you do with the black tank and have for years with my Reflection. Sometimes on travel day I leave about ten gallons of water in it with some chemical and let it slosh around until the next stop where I can dump again and you’d be surprised what else comes out. We visited Jim Beam a few years ago as well! Did you notice all the black soot like material on some of the buildings and trees when you were there? They don’t like to talk about it anymore but I was told it’s a byproduct of the distilling process. Very interesting. Anyway another great video, safe travels you guys…

Yes, our guide actually mentioned why they paint the buildings black, which is due to the crud on the walls. We found that interesting too! 😊
