Once he was running for office he went down to investigate the border and now is giving us his solutions as he views us as part of his policy. Not really sure why you’re all bent out of shape about it. Shouldn’t you be glad he shares some of the same beliefs? Also, I know Trump wanted to build the wall and ran on that platform. What I’m unfamiliar with is if Trump had the picture ID suggestion and prosecuting employers who hire these illegal immigrants which is the real issue that perpetuates the border crisis. I'm Black. I don't know any Black people who don't have a government ID. Even the minors and teenagers have a non-drivers ID. This is insulting. I know plenty who live in the city and don't own a car or fly. They just use public transportation or carpool to travel. The don't have a need for an ID. Cities like NYC actually issue City Based IDs that meet all the same requirements as state and federal IDs now.

It's not the costs. It's the documents needed to prove it initially and the practical necessity of having one. If it is only for voting federally, then they will just use a passport if they have one or bring their BC. I don't disagree with you on the basis of cost. IDs, even the $120 full passport + card is not a lot. It just covers the cost of printing it and time of the people processing the application.

It's not about blaming people for wanting to cross the border! That's totally the wrong focus here. Nothing could be further from my world view, but still I'm 100% for taking control. It's more like if you're in a boat that will sink if more passengers come onboard. In the water everywhere around you at sea, there are thousands and thousands of others who will drown if they don't manage to enter a boat. You're in the only boat they all have a chance to reach. Imagine that you have a choice: you can prevent people from boarding (this is just a metaphor so realism is not necessary here) or you can take a few more individuals and let the boat sink. You'll drown together with the others in the boat. It's not that far from land, and as soon as you're on land if that's what you choose, you'll have a couple of options about what to do to save at least a few of the others in the water. (Which in my metaphor means: It's fully possible we can work to secure people more where they already live. Maybe even without manipulating and bombing countries now and then, like the US so often has done.)

I don't know if those 87k IRS agents were ever hired, but how about firing them and hiring 87k temporary judges to catch up the backlog so the wait is less than a day instead of 7y, then pass laws so Border Patrol can make assessments on the spot as to whether or not an asylum claim is legit and either approve it for further processing up the chain, or deny it on the spot, process their illegal entry and document them (fingerprint, photo, name/alias, etc...), then deny their entry into the US.

The neglected border structures are not the primary issue, although it does need significant attention. The major issue is the broken immigration system, that has been left unfixed for 20+ years. This of course, is an undeniable consequence of the creation of the Militarized Surveillance State following 9/11. The DHS and USCIS, the agencies that manage the "legal procedures" for immigrants now, were rushed into creation under emergency orders, just after 9/11, and using predrafted legislation. The excuse to do this was the "War on Terror", and its' effect on immigration was a lazy afterthought, that has directly led to backlogs and issues that caused the millions of illegals today. Many people, especially citizens who never interacted with immigration system at all or recently, do not know this. Further breakage occurred with things like The Patriot Act and REAL ID Act, that have added additional bureaucratic procedures that didn't exist before and were never fitted properly. The system that exists now is dysfunctional by design. It was brought about by greedy and tyrannical entities and has been kept in place by both parties because of how useful it is to have millions of "illegals" to exploit and scapegoat.

Close the border, yes. Don't build all of the wall, no. Not only does a security system need to be across the entire border, it needs to be on both the north and south borders and a system in place along the coasts. A southern border wall should be just the tip of the iceberg.

@@benton9571 Unless I missed something, Trump had signed an executive order in January 2017 when he took office directing the government to begin border wall construction. There were 455 miles of wall in place when Trump left office. I think it was Biden who halted further construction when he took over in January 2021. That was three and a half years ago. RFK Jr has been to the border and seen first hand that it's a threat to our national security and would close it.

Jr. is spot on!! I have seen it firsthand. I used to work in a migrant shelter during COVID and the amount of money and resources spent is outrageous!! The amount of young, single men crossing the border is alarming, and the behavior from some of these men are also concerning. When I brought the issue up to the NGO I was working with I was dismissed and treated like I was doing something wrong. I witnessed migrants assaulting other migrants, and one man was almost killed. When I addressed this issue with my manager, I was told I need permission from "leadership" before we called the police. There is zero consideration for the people working these shelters, and the "State" continues to fund these operations, spending millions of dollars. It's disgusting and inhumane on all levels. Also, anyone who speaks up about these issues gets "demobilized" from the operation, and there is nothing you can do about it because you are a "contract worker."
