I learned about Juneteenth when I was in elementary school at Ft Hood Texas. My teacher was black. That same year I learned about concentration camps in California for Japanese-Americans. A teacher assistant was a Japanese-American. I'm grateful for my diverse educators.

I totally get the sentiment, but this is where we just have to suck it up, because for us to have it and to have it recognized nationwide, they gotta get it too. I mean, I’m sure those that fought for MLK day probably felt the same at the beginning, but now it is for everyone, so it just is what it is. But it’s going to eventually fade into the background like all federal Holidays do; that’s the American way. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I would be so petty to that "tenant." I'd put all my belongings in storage-granted she didn't advertise fully furnished. She would have to provide everything for herself. Be as obnoxious as possible. I'm talking loud sex, pooping with the door open, walking around naked, playing music loud, eating her food, cooking chitterlings, etc. Until I can legally evict her, imma try and make her feel as uncomfortable as possible. she bet not expect no security deposit back. I'd refuse it on the smoking alone.

First off, Angel is a joy. I lose it every time she does "drunk white lady". 😄 Secondly, I'm like Kev in the fact that I FEEL a certain way about other people celebrating Juneteenth. Here's my thing. I appreciated the fact Kwanzaa and Juneteenth were created and celebrated by Black AMERICAN people. They were uniquely OURS. Let me make it plain. Chinese Americans celebrate Chinese New Years. They never gave a f*ck how the rest of Americans felt about it. I would've preferred if Black people had acted and felt the same way about Kwanzaa and Juneteenth. I'll sum it up this way. In Kev's voice: "It's for Black people, anyway!!"

@ 1:01 Kevin and Angel, I'm not criticizing your opinions of Beyonce's new song; I just disagree who you feel the target audience for it is. Break My Soul is a classic late 80's early 90's house track where the lyrics were motivational and uplifiting. These songs were played mainly in Black/Latinx Gay clubs and the LGBTQ+ Ballroom scene (think of the show Pose as a reference). I LOVE this song, as a Black woman I feel like Break My Soul is speaking directly to people from marginalized communities of color, sexuality, disabilities, etc. Beyonce has made music that targeted the white girls for sure (e.g. Single Ladies, Sweet Dreams, Run The World) But I don't think she'd have Big Freeda who is an openly gay Black male rapper from New Orleans at the beginning of the song if she was thinking white girl power anthem. Break My Soul is giving me Crystal Waters, Robin S. CeCe Peniston and Martha Walsh. You can even take it back to Gloria Gaynor's ' I Will Survive.' So I'm definitely looking forward to 'Renaissance' and Beyonce's house/disco diva era. Y'all are so funny. Love you guys.

Fast forward more than 20 years and I still had to educate my parents who still live in VA. We have to remember my family in VA would have heard about the emancipation during the time because of the location. Education is still key for us understanding why we need to know our history. @@nicksgottalent Oh! I thought you mean the overall population didn't know all this time. That is weird that people in the north had delayed reactions. Now I'm about to look up the last state to do so.

Told some friends yesterday the new Drake album sounds like Zara, H&M, and Forever 21 shopping music. "Break My Soul" gives big cardio class energy lol. Outrageous music prediction: Drake and Beyonce are going to drop a joint house/"oontz oontz" music album.

People do that 'squatting' intentionally. It's about being a tenant, many times they can get a person to leave their own house by making them feel they are in danger. They sue if you physically remove them. They know laws better than lawyers

Kev! Who knew you were a house music clairvoyant?! As a fellow former Armybrat, I just want to reiterate that y'alls whole operation is just such vibe!! I love to see you and Melissa win! I appreciate you listening to your inner voice and putting stuff out there while forging a life SO different than what we were raised in. It continues to push me out of the "safe space" and into a more creative avenue! And thanks for the laughs ALWAYS!

Enough Juneteenths have already passed. Most people were just late to the party, because our education system has failed us. In Texas, especially Galveston and Houston have been celebrating Juneteenth. For decades there has been huge Mardi Gra like parades and carnivals and cookouts.

Yep, in Mississippi celebrating Juneteenth with big festivals, parades, and even school activities was an integral part of my childhood. It was definitely a whole vibe and treated like a holiday in our culture growing up. It’s eye opening that people from different regions did not know we been out here celebrating Juneteenth for a minute. Spend a couple Juneteenth’s in the south cause we been doing it for decades.
