I feel like quitting watching Pokemon KZbin sometimes, anybody else? It’s confusingly frustrating how bothersome it is to see something you enjoyed be called mid and then everybody makes videos at the same time suddenly calling it underrated or good. And it’s all because of money. These same cards looked the same 2 months ago. But the change is the secondary market price. Now the SV era is suddenly going to be good and on the rise. And as a collector it sucks knowing some singles I’ve been wanting are probably going to go the SWSH alt art/TG route and increase 30%-100% overnight. Shoot I’ve seen my collectr app and cards like Raichu and TTar are double the price of what I pulled them at. I’m a little over a year into this hobby but I’m just realizing how exhausting it is. But maybe it’s just social media making it more exhausting.

@@SB-ki3jw it can be, but there’s alot of people in all hobbies, not just pokemon, that treat it 100% as a business investing far more capital than an average hobbyist, which skyrockets prices making it that much more difficult and discouraging for the average hobbyist.

@@SB-ki3jw It can be both. It just feels wrong when people seem strongly guided by money first. There’s a balance. If you’re deep enough into collecting you’re most likely aware of the value of what you’re buying/opening. Like I only open Booster Boxes with the occasional sleeved boosters. I’m aware it’s the best price/pack and somewhat seeded so better odds of getting top hits. But there’s some people who seem like they have zero balance and it’s 100% on the flip/invest side. Like there’s this channel named Poke Profit that straight up clowned people for opening packs. Turning $5 into 10 cents or $100 into $15. Well if that wasn’t a part of the hobby you would have no investments. If people didn’t care to open the packs, they couldn’t get the singles and it would be a dead hobby. So when people aggressively view the money side which impacts people who actually care about keeping the card not flipping it, it sucks. When the stuff you pull or buy the single of “sucks” until it passes a certain price then it’s “underrated” if just rubs people the wrong way.

Scarlet violet is criminally underrated. When the SWSH craze is over, people will see that top to bottom SV is a better era, assuming we get sets with cards featuring Umbreon, rayquaza, etc. we got SIRs in EVERY set, swsh is legitimately terrible in comparison for the first 6 sets. I think SV has a chance to be truly iconic

I’ve had better pull rates from scarlet and violet than sword and shield. Sword and shield pull rates were absolute garbage until the late sets especially crown zenith. Maybe the last year of sword and shield has people putting on rose-tinted glasses? Prior to trainer gallery cards I was lucky to ever see an alt art. Now you can pick up a good handful of packs and likely have at least 1 illustration rare in there. That’s my experience, at least.

On point! I feel like saying the SV pull rates are bad (especially having just come out of the SwSh era) is disingenuous. I've been in love with this era since SV base - and I've put my money where my mouth is.

My experience was the opposite. I haven’t pulled any alt arts full art or anything wow level in sv. I’ve also scaled back because of it. Evolving skies was my best luck if I could find it.

As you said, I really enjoy the artwork and cards of SV but the pull rates are brutal, at least for me. The vid is a good reminder to pick up some singles though, so I might as well start doing that! Thanks Jake!

I've got a full Paradox Rift master set, including all the staff promos and all the collection holo variants. I stand firm that this set's IR's are the best we've gotten so far, but excited for them to improve in the latter end of the SV era.

While everyone fomo over what’s hot next for English cards I’m still collecting Japanese cards on the side as they keep reaching all time lows going back to sun and moon tag team era. Even graded 10s Japanese cards cards are cheap like the same magikarp in jp psa 10 is $50-$60 buying now for long term isn’t a bad idea

SV era had always had beautiful cards. Getting booster boxes of SV base for 90 or less still to this day is amazing. Being able to buy most of the singles for relatively cheap has been great. The artworks are better overall for SV than another other era. It's super annoying when people come on and talk about how SV is great NOW when nothing has changed except the youtube hype. It's really strange watching most youtubers all pick up on each other and say the exact same thing. The only guy on here with his own takes is dannyphantump. He's been talking about how much he has loved SV era since the beginning. People need to appreciate the art and stop worrying about the prices. The hobby isn't about making money, it's about enjoying the art and playing the game.

If you enjoy Japanese cards you can get Groudon, Raichu, and Tyranitar for very cheap compared to the english prices. Almost all illustration rares are much cheaper.

Yeah when it comes to the more expensive ir, getting the Japanese version is almost always better. Picked up a Japanese ir magikarp for $15.

The last time I collected Pokémon was when I was 7 or 8 years old. I’m now 34 and my kid likes Pokémon. I did some research and started collecting 151 with her. Why is it getting so much flack? I think the top hits in sword and shield will stay in higher demand than scarlet and violet. That said I think there is more value in scarlet and violet with more cards in the 10-50$ range.

" Better looking chases" is obvisioully a personal opinion. SWSH has some bangers S&V has some bangers, S&V so far has used trash card stock compared to SWSH imo. I hope they improve the print quality of the S&V cards moving forward.

Always hated the SwSh era. Almost every card was lazy, uninspiring CGI. The only exception was the Machamp V Alt Art which is also really nice. This is also the artist behind the Alakazam EX SIR. Overall SV has the better art but they need to feature more Pokémon from the older gen.

I think S&V is doing a great Job when it comes to art. What this era is currently missing are fan favorite pokemons. The focus is too much on the new Pokemons (which is normal). Take the Ogerpons SIRs in the current set for example. I think S&V could really hit things out of the park with tag team SIR and IRs. Imagine the Groudon and Tyranitar Art would have been a face off on 1 SIR.

Optimistic thinking but it most likely won't surpass sword and shield. The alt arts, the full arts, the rainbows, the gold cards? I mean how are you gonna top all those? I think scarlet and violet sill do well but and it'll be close over time. Time is key but i don't think you'll be able to compare a full art lugia to which will only gain more value over time to Anything scarlet and violet has now, Except Magickarp. The only thing scarlet and violet has that's huge is the Magickarp, If it continues to rise which most likely will. But like ask yourself aside from then Magickarp what card could come close to a silver tempest lugia full art? There isn't one.

All these cards are under valued. In time everything will go up including the Vs, v maxs etc etc once something isn't made anymore demand will go up. Rainbows gold cards etc these are works of art. Far surpassing the regular boring base set of one photo

If late SM and SWSH era was the golden age, SV to me is feeling like a modern renaissance. Just a total cultural shift in the English borders, art style, etc. I cannot wait to see Mega Evolved EX SIRs. I really hope they will knock it put of the park in terms of the art and the chase.

Everyone has their opinion on SV era. I personally dont like it at all. The ARs or IRs just dont do it for me. Not a fan of seeing pokemon doing boring human stuff like working or going grocery shopping, that isnt what pokemon is about for me.

Uh? Pull rates are so much better than sword and shield. Especially when you compare sir pull rates to alt art pull rates. A booster box of a sv era set almost always has more value than a booster box of a ss era box.

People have a recency bias, values go up the sets must be “good”, so that’s what we are seeing with S & V, having said that - this era is just as good as SWSH without the rainbow Rares people hated.
