Yes! I am so happy to support this pattern company. In addition to clear, detailed construction steps, this is a wonderful statement on basic self esteem at any size. We owe it to the next generation. Bravo, Love Notions!

Here is the bottom line on why my ENTIRE closet is me made: CUSTOM MADE GARMENTS THAT FIT MY BODY AND LOOK GREAT ON ME (using mostly Love Notions patterns!) Why walk around in ready-to-wear garments (which I did for many years) that looked either way too big/baggy because I had to buy the largest size to fit my very large bust sacrificing fit everywhere else, or purchasing a size to my thick waist and have the rest of the (pants) look like clown pants on me! And at barely 5'4", the Petite department simply does not cut it when it comes to plus sizes! Sewing a custom made garment with your patterns is SOOOO rewarding! This was a very thoughtful video which should inspire beginner sewists as well as accomplished sewists! 💗

Great video about the Sybil Skirt waistband options, Tessa! It's disturbing that social media promotes looking "smaller". IMO, the way for everybody to look their best, is to wear clothing that FITS. Thank you, LN for fabulous patterns with zillions of options that work for every body as well as for all of the positive support you provide to the sewing community!

You've shared such a great message here, Tessa. We all need to be comfortable and confident in our own bodies. Our number one goal for sewing our own garments should be, as you said so perfectly, is to get the proper fit for our unique body shapes. I can't wait to have a wardrobe full of properly fitting pants, tops, dresses etc...

I have had this pattern for a while now and have made lots of these skirts. It is one of my favorite patterns. Thanks for sharing this video with us. It has helped me to understand more about the control top. I normally make all of mine with the yoga band and sometimes put elastic in the waistband. I will definitely try the control top now.

This really is visually inspirational, thank you Tessa. Love having options & both waistbands look so easy to make! It's wonderful how you are so aware with your sweet girls to be themselves. Our culture has focused way too long on being thin as the only acceptable option (look at those "vintage" patterns from the 40's - 60's that are so classic & making a comeback, but have tiny waistlines like Barbie). Tim Gunn had a great video years ago how fashion designers were missing a very lucrative multimillion market for fashion designed for real, curvy, plus size women worldwide. The average size of the American woman is now 16 to 18, up from size 14 & the average height is 5'4". Aren't we so fortunate as garment sewists to be able to make clothes we love just for ourselves that fit well & feel good? This video is yet another reason to love Love Notions!

Can you do a tutorial on how to sew the yoga waistband? When I sewed mine I had about 3” left of skirt fabric to sew in
@LoveNotions7 ай бұрын
Did you quarter it before sewing and ease it in? Sometimes I quarter the quarters to make sure it fits before sewing. 🤔 TomKat Stitchery and Lifting Pins and Needles both have Sybil videos here on KZbin, they may have a tutorial already, but I will add it to the topics list for the future! ~J

Would it be fair to say that “support” means “to minimize jiggle?” I think that certain styles of clothing-as well as colors, prints and types of fabric are more flattering on us than others. I once heard a makeup artist say that our goal, when applying makeup, should be to emphasize our positive facial features rather than covering up our negative features (dark circles, acne, etc.). I think the same might be true for clothing.

That is a great comparison. So much of advertising tells us to cover the parts of our body that are undesirable. What a terrible message for our children as well as ourselves! Yes, some of us are at an unhealthy weight but loosing weight doesn’t make you look like a model. Your basic body attributes will be the same no matter how much you weigh. When I was 20 and weighed 138 at 5’8 1/2” and was 35/23/36. I wore a size 12 (1966). By today’s sizing, I would wear a size 6 or 8! I am now at 78y/o, I weigh 149 and am 5’ 6”, due the arthritis, aging and spinal fusion, 37/33/41 and wear a size 12/14. I also birthed 4 boys who weighed 8 1/2 - 9 lbs. I might need aetter toned muscles but I refuse to try to look like I did at 20 or 30! As my DDIL said, we earned every inch of our bodies! Thanks , Tessa, for the positive message. My heart breaks when I hear the reports of kids being bullied because the don’t fit in!

Great video and great point! I have a question: since the support panel is not attached at the side seams of the skirt, do you have any roll - up issues? would it be & benefit to sew the panel into the side seams?
@LoveNotions2 жыл бұрын
Hi Judi. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with rolling but definitely do what works for you. Sewing it to the side seams sounds like a perfect work around for rolling. ~K

Could this control top be added to woven skirts with narrow waistbands? I find my waistbands (1" below natural waist) get pushed or rolled down.
@LoveNotions5 ай бұрын
I don't see why not, though depending on the skirt pattern, you may have to do some extra gathering to get it to fit at the waistband, since it has quite a bit of negative ease. 😊 ~J
