When you quote the price of the EV9, or any legacy vehicle, you have to keep in mind that those prices are BEFORE going through a dealer and all their addons and markups. Remember, the true price of a vehicle is called the INVOICE price, which is what a dealer pays (roughly 25% below the MSRP). And since autodealer association bought politicians force legacy auto to only sell to dealers, making them nothing more than "flippers", you have to pay the dealers cut. When you buy a Rivian or a Tesla, the price you see online is the price you pay. Meaning it's the invoice price. No addons, no markups, because there is no middlemen wanting "their cut".

I think dealers will make or break this one. If its anything like trying to buy a Telluride they won't actually stock the lower trim model, but it'll stay "sold" in inventory to get people in. If they only have top trims, then the Rivian R1S just makes more sense, not much more for higher range, more offroadability, and more cargo space.

I'd love to see an honest comparison between a comparably equipped EV9 and Telluride. Putting aside any arguments about the environment, which is the better purchase? My wife and I really like the idea of the EV9 and went to a local dealer and checked it out and liked it in person. But comparing the EV9 to a telluride makes it a tough sell when you account for the $15k or so price premium. It would take quite a few years for the cost to even out based on home charging and lack of oil changes, etc. So is the EV9 inherently nicer/better as a vehicle?

For anyone curious about actual range let me give you a real world idea. My Tesla model Y has a 310 mile range. You can charge it to 90% but after a while it gives a warning to only charge to 80%. So that’s 248. After owning it for a year an 80% charge is now 240. Real world driving I get maybe 75% of that. Much worse if up or downhill often. So realistically, a 310 mile range equals about 160-180 usable miles daily. It’s not great.

I really like this car (EV9) and the $55k short range RWD would make a great in-town family car, or a delivery/taxi/uber/lyft type vehile. Would likely pay for itself. I think the top line GT-Line is into the luxury considering the features it offers. As to comparing it to a model Y, please dont't be rediculous. Model Y is the best car Tesla makes, but didn't you guys had issues withthe one you bought (that TFL bought) as a long test? The 3rd row is a Joke and I would not put a dog in there! Maybe a chihuahua if I didn't like that dog.... FOr the MOdel X, Yes, you can get a BEAR BONES model X with 5 seats and can't even change the color it ocmes in. Base AED 7 seat Kia EV9 wind is like $60?ish? THen add the 7 seat and enhanced auto pilot ot make it have some of the features the EV9 GT-Line or teh LAND even have, and then you're looking at over $85K for a Tesla. The captain chairs on the Model X take you to 89K plus. a Fully loaded EV9 GT-Line will cost you $79K with the relaxation (massaging) seats package. and pretty much allthe options Yes, the Tesla Model X qualifies for a $7500 tax rebate, but you will need that when you have the inconviniences of a car with not as good build quality as the Kia. I had a MOdel X and returned it since it spend 2 out of the 3 months I owned wwith problems. Also, if you want the full sell driving its another $12k, so another $1500 if you want a different color than black or different upgraded interior, so While close in price, NOT close in quality. YOu could compare to MB EQS, Rivian R1S has gone down in price now that dual motor is out, and it is quite capable off road, but the 3rd row in it is a joke. EQS SUV is good, but ohw much is that one? and EQV is Small. Did I miss any other 3rd row EV vehicles? I think Kia has somethign here I think the Genius of Kia EV9 is that they really made a minivan, but its sold as a SUV crossover. I am a proponent of minivans, they are more convenient than SUVs and economic and we can go on, but they're not cool. THis car, VERY COOL! Also, I forgot the V2L capavilities of this car. So many of you are saying, "if I'm paying upwards of 70 80K I could get a lower end Rivian or Tesla SUV" is just idiotic. That's clout chasing and focusing on prestige. Rivian could be out of business based on market valuation sentiment of the company. Tesla has poor build quality. Kia has a network of dealers, and is an actual vehicle company, not a startup. Now if the whole purpose is to get a brand name that's buzzing and for you to show you have money then go for it. Otherwise, statements as if KIA has to work its way up to brands like Rivian are a joke.

Beautiful design. KIA and Hyundai are definitely on their A game. Pricing... meh. A bit steep. But considering everything is costing more and more these days, it's not *that* bad.

Eh, top level trim might as well get a Rivian. Midrange trim would rather have a Land Cruiser.

Blame your federal government for that lack of a tax credit.

Photo of it towing a boat. Would you launch a boat with it?
