Maybe I’m getting old but can we go back to smaller rims and bigger tires side walls it will make your vehicle ride softer and more comfortable. But it’s a nice crossover suv

smallers wheels are also more efficient / more range and cheaper to change.... really not many positives to larges wheels for side wall, well you can argue for handling for a bit smaller... but anything under 45 ratio is just a receipe for wheel damage...

Smaller wheels for EVs also provide better range so a 21 inch wheel is unproductive. Which more reason why this entire car is obscene. The environmental aspect of this morbidly obese vehicle is a joke.

Nathan, as someone who lives and drives where it snows, and hearing you complain about frozen charging ports, it's weird to hear you advocate for placing them in the front bumper. The whole front of the car quickly gets caked in ice when you're driving on the highway in the winter, which makes it kind of a bad spot for the charge port! My personal preference is passenger side, front or rear quarter.

Just bought an EV9 Land in iceberg green, it's beautiful and drives incredibly. If you are even remotely on the fence, definitely go for it. I'm getting over 300 miles of range and that's in 40-50F temps, it should be like 330 in the summer. A lot of people in here poo-pooing EVs, and the pricing from Kia. All I can say is this vehicle feels like a 70k product, and is built like a bank vault. Also, if you haven't driven EVs you cant really understand--basically if there are chargers, you're fine. I have a route that is 500 miles that I do regularly. Charging once or twice for 15-20 minutes, combined with a bathroom and food break. I have driven this route so many times and I've literally never worried about charging. In 2-3 years of driving almost exclusively electric vehicles, I've never been stranded. Never worried about charging. I've been road-tripping all around for thousands of miles. I keep on waiting for a major failure or problem...still hasn't happened. And it's only going to get better from here as more and better chargers appear. It's 2024 and at least in coastal USA, driving an EV is not just viable, but preferred, to the point where my gas vehicle mostly just sits at home.

It’s the same price as the 5 seater Tesla Model X or 6k less for the 6 seater. Once Kia Dealers get their hands on it they will be marked up over the Model X. If the EV9 was less expensive I would love to buy it. It’s hard sell buying a Value brand when you can get a Luxury car first the same price.

A Chrysler Pacifica is $40k for its base. The hybrid base is nearly $53k. No, stow and go, which is problematic, the towing is 5k, and the vehicle does not have the 7-passenger capacity, and rear doors rather than the sliding rear doors. They added sunroofs for no good reason.

These things are already heavily discounted. Definitely agree on the popout door handles and charge door. Ice and snow builds up and blocks it. I've seen many reviews and walk arounds of this car both by Australian (where I live) reviewers and overseas reviewers. I've no doubt it is a well made car with a luxurious feel to it and a lot of tech (including the "digital" wing mirrors on the top line model). It is a pretty hefty vehicle at 2500kgs and 5 metres in length. The top of the line model will be close to $140K (AUD) by the time dealer delivery is factored in, on road costs and comprehensive insurance. That is a lot of money for a Korean car from a manufacturer whose bread and butter was affordable, well made cars that people could and would buy. In Australia the average household (according to a 2021 figures) is 2.59 people. Let's be generous and call it three people. That being the case who needs a 7-seater and why? This vehicle is not a substitute for a Land Cruiser because it has less than half the range and when a towed vehicle is added to the load on the battery the range is going to be further reduced. I'm in favour of EVs as a solution to air quality problems in our larger cities but that can only be the case if the vehicle is affordable and would be bought in large numbers. This is not such a vehicle and will do nothing to aid in reducing the carbon footprint of cars. Whilst the job of a reviewer is to tell the potential buyers about the vehicle's features it might also be to ask questions as to the reason a vehicle exists. From all the reviews I have seen no one has asked the question why does this vehicle exist? Those are my thoughts on the Kia EV9

Nice review, looks like a very nice vehicle. I am sure he's not alone, but Nathan really seems hung up on the brand image and saying that nearly $80k isn't acceptable because it's wearing a Kia badge. I can understand mentioning it, but making such a big deal about that, I don't agree with. If it's a great vehicle, it's a great vehicle, whether it has a fancy badge or not.

These guys will be saying the same thing 20 years from now. On my way home Friday night, I noticed I was in a line of SEVEN Kias/Hyundais in a row on the highway, including the one I was in. From a Rio all the way through a Telluride. They are popular cars now. I saw my first EV9 in the wild last week too. Exact match to the one in this video and it was gorgeous. Looked every bit of a $70K+ vehicle.

A BASE 3-row RWD wagon for $61K (large battery; small battery ->under 250 miles EPA, doesn’t count) is pricey. Even in Kia models, that’s beyond a top-trim Prestige X-Pro ($53K) or Prestige X-Line ($54K) Telluride. So Kia may not make many EV converts with the EV9 unless customer started shopping more XPNSV crossover EVs. How m😅ny will sell?? We’ll see. My local dealer has a Light short range ($57K), 2 Land AWDs ($74K) and 3 GT-Line AWDs ($78K). Let the spending begin ….

People need to understand that with these heavy EV's, you'll be going through tires in a hurry. You probably go through 3 sets of tires in 100,000 miles.

Not really. They make EV specific tires. I get fifty to 75k on a set of tires. And I don’t baby them.

Chances are Kia is losing money even at the $80K price point - and this is the biggest challenge facing EVs. Justifying $80K is hard sell for Mercedes and BMW, leave alone Kia.

Hmm, at this price it directly competes with a Chevy Tahoe. Think I'd still take the Tahoe with a V8, with easy 5 min 'recharges' on road trips.

I’m on my second EV looking for my third. Just drove a Tahoe in rain and snow with three people and all the gear from Jackson Hole to Sun Valley and back in winter. Even at the surprisingly good 19 mpg we got in the Tahoe it’s gonna cost you a lot more, including refueling and purchase price over the life of the vehicle.

80 Grand for any car is ludicrous much less a Kia.
@Harhawink
@Harhawink 3 ай бұрын
So 80 grand is alot for a car which is some of the leading tech in the segment, offers largest practical space in the segment is packed with same tech as a fully loaded Mercedes EQS SUV, basicaly pars the Merc in terms of cabine silence, comfort and power. Outnumbers the Merc in towing capacity by several hundred kilos and offers a class leading warranty. EV9 fully specced at £75400 MSRP, in U.S. configurator equally specced EQS SUV at $121.100. Just to put it into a perspective. You get a GLC, High spec C-class or EQB SUV Elecric Mercedes with the price difference between these two. Note that EV9 is a larger car in practice and offers also quicker charging and unique V2L, V2H, V1G two-way charging options that the Mercedes cant even offer. Not an option. And with a unmatched warranty.

Nothing against the Kia, this goes for all the electric vehicles, specifically the pricing. Lipstick on a pig or Curtains in an outhouse, you pick. For the charging infrastructure we have, and the percentages that are not even working, For the charging speeds, or lack thereof. And this totally insane concept of I will jump from charger to charger only adding 80 miles at a time crap. These things are STUPID MONEY!
