I had to raise my son as a single mother, before I had him I had travelled extensively throughout Europe on my own and loved it very much. I told my son all about it when he was growing up. When he was turning 10, I got to take him on a wonderful Summer vacation where we drove across the U.S., hung out in Vermont for a week and parked the car in Boston to catch a flight to the UK. We spent 40 days hanging out wandering around Scotland and Ireland. My son loved the ancient Roman ruins, and Scotland has free museums so we just had a blast. He decided to study French in middle school, because he wanted to learn an internationally spoken language besides Spanish in hopes of working abroad one day. He ended up sticking with it and became proficient by the time he was ready for college. He went to college in Lyon, France where he was able to rent a room from a very elderly French woman who lives in her family's 300 yr. old chateau, her homecooked meals included. She told him firsthand what it was like there during the WW2 occupation, so free history lesson included. Even thought it all sounds extravagant, I don't have much money and all these opportunities came about in surprising ways that we just went with. I absolutely love what you are doing as a family, and I agree with your choices 100%. My son returned to France to work in Paris a few years ago, but it was too large a city and much too expensive for him so he returned to the states after 6 months. He ended up seeing more of Europe than I ever did, he really likes Budapest and Berlin. You have given your family a precious lifestyle choice that money cannot buy. You have given them a legacy of joy.

I recall when I was 4 years old, I am now 67 years old, Grampa died when I was age 5, I was sitting on his knee as he was cleaning his garden tools. I could smell the Dentyne gum in his shirt pocket. My point is that he loved me enough to involve me in his garden chores and taught me to care for the garden tools. Little steps create lasting impressions. I love what you are doing with your children!

The way the parents treat them boosts the girls' confidence. They don't just give them little jobs to keep them entertained, but ask them to help for real. The girls know that they are valued and that gives them confidence to act freely. Great education, especially important for girls.

A very warm video. Oh, a tip. When making coffee in them Italian kettles, you need to fill the coffee so's it's a little over flowing pyramid on top. This then gets a firmer compress and a finer, stronger coffee. Good luck.

Congratulations on 100k subscribers! You guys totally deserve it. And you should really give yourselves some credit because what I love about your channel is that you show the hard work that you put in to having the life of your dreams. And, as a teacher, I love how you incorporate the girls in every step of your home building process. You have so much patience with them and are willing to take the time to show them how to do things rather than just wave them away. Your girls are learning to be independent young ladies with skills and determination. That's a hard thing to teach and I really applaud you guys as parents. Great job!!!

(6:37) It looks as if you have some really healthy dandelion greens. This last year, I began chopping them finely and adding them to salad, as they are full of nutrients. THEN, in the spring (when they were abundant, young and tender), I gathered a huge basket of them, washed and chopped, then sautéed them in olive oil with a ton of garlic .... and added them to cooked (and nicely salted) little potatoes. OMG!!! They are so good, my mouth waters just thinking about them! (And to think I used to try to get rid of them!!!).

My brother got tired of fighting the single wheel on his wheelbarrow. He changed the wheel axle to an extra long one that extended a foot beyond the wheel on both sides. He then mounted two small wheels on the ends of the axle. The result is that it still functions as a normal wheelbarrow, BUT it doesn't tip over onto its side because the small wheels stop the tipping.

How do you get all your building materials up the mountain?
