Great video keywan! I still don’t understand why they stopped using the lane, it seems like they could’ve gotten some nice time savings on the 84. Also nice to see the new 2200s!

1:17 actually the stop requested cords are useful. You can signal your request anywhere without reaching out for the yellow stripes or buttons. In Germany, the cords are rare, EvoBus or Solaris even won't ship busses with those.

Great video, as always! Interesting to see the new models as well. I'd love to see a bit more about the maintenance of these buses, if you ever need content ideas! Oil changes, filters, tires, wipers, lights, seats -- what all is involved in maintaining one of these units? I imagine the different engine and fuel types would require different things, but as someone with dreams of converting an old transit bus into a home on wheels down the road, how bad is it? 😂

Cool video & Wow, that's interesting. I didn't know Sacrt had a bus-only line, and sadly, it's abandoned. They could use this line for future BRT services, but thank you for the information about this abandoned bus line. And that's a lot of new Gilligs. I wonder how many new 2200s buses are?

At LA Metro, we have El Dorado National, and our Electric New Flyers for the G Line, have stop request buttons that work off a high pitch air frequency/noise. If you press the buttons, you hear a puff of air. But a lot of times, other things set off the sensor like my keys jangling, or the coach groaning over a pothole/bad road. I'll have no one on my coach, and the stop request will go off. The w/c one will go off too, even though I have no w/c aboard. I always say the coaches are haunted, and the ghosts are messing with me.

6:30 - I'm totally judging you. Don't worry, I record videos and take pics around traffic in my uniform too while im on my break. People look at me like I'm crazy. Any reason why the bus lane is abandoned?? We appreciate you sharing what you experience as a bus operator in Sacramento. I must say it's really interesting.

Here in San Diego, they installed bus only lanes on a new Rapid bus route (Rapid 225) running through Chula Vista on the way to the Otay Mesa Border crossing. There are two lanes (one in each direction), and it generally works quite well. Initially, the traffic signals didn't seem to be timed all that well. Just as the driver pulled up to stop, the signal would change to allow him/her to proceed. That was annoying. It seems they have the sensors and signals better timed now. There is one section that is one lane, and that's on a bridge over the Southbay Expressway. The bridge has a very slight S-curve to it and signals with gates to prevent two buses heading in opposite directions from being on the bridge at the same time. In theory. On the third night the new route was in service, I was riding it home from work. The bridge signal malfunctioned and there were two buses nose-to-nose stuck on the bridge. The driver said that he was not allowed to back his bus up without a supervisor present, so we had to wait 45 minutes for the supervisor to arrive on scene. With the S-curve in the bridge, it was a challenge even for a seasoned driver to back the articulated New Flyer bus up for a quarter mile until we were off the bridge. They've since worked out the bugs with the bridge signal and, to my knowledge, that hasn't happened again.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority in Florida is the complete opposite in regards to the stop request system. The older buses up to 2015 (when the first CNGs were put into service/only CNGs with buttons #2500s) uses buttons and 2016-2021 buses uses cords. As of right now the #3100s are the newest in service but tracking info. on TransSee is showing 6 new #3200s at the garage for a few months. For me Jacksonville's fleet and when they receive new buses is weird because by the time an order of buses come in for that model year that year is either over with or is the beginning of the following year. For example, many of the CNG's for their respective model years didn't enter service until November or December of each year, sometimes January of the following year. Also they retired their 2008 #1700s and 2009 #1900s standard Low-Floors but still have the 2007 standard BRTs #1600s in service. One of their buses only lasted just under a year due to a major rollover accident, 2017 BRTPlus CNG #2708.

I wonder how much longer those Orions will be around with all those new Gilligs coming in. I'm guilty of pressing that walk button a lot trying to get the light to change only to hear "wait", same exact voice as here in NY as well. I wonder why they stopped using the bus only lane.

Isn't that a tram not a train (he says pendantically) my local bus is also the 72 a pretty cool route linking the city of Plymouth to the fishing villages of Looe and Polperro via Trerulefoot, Catchfrench , No Man's Land, crumplehorn and Barcelona. A reliable every two hours interurban 7 days a week. Leeds in Yorkshire has a contra flow single lane bus lane in the middle of a section of dual carriageway (divided highway) which is basically run as city bound buses in the morning peak and suburban direction in evening peaks.

That stop request thing, just wow... how crude and outdated. The EU does indeed have buttons, even for passengers in wheelchairs. You will see a red "stop" appear above the driver and it gives a bell "ding" sound. While the driver gets also notified with a red light directly in his view so he can't mistake it for something else. This way the windows are clear in case of a emergency and less difficult to get trough.
