a better version of the stop clock is how it works in AFL. there will be a clock that counts down each half, for example 40 mins, which stops each time the ball goes out, but the clock shown to the players and people at the stadium counts up and records total time of the half, so the players dont know the exact moment the game will end. the clock on the tv can also be the true time that counts down.

NBA All-Star weekend is mainly a celebration for the game itself and not about the players. Bringing something like this across to UK football could give less well known players a chance to shine in something such as a "Skill Game" or "Set-Piece Game". The way it works in the NBA currently is between the two conferences (East and West) a captain is voted for by the fans. These captains then draft their teams on a live broadcast. The players they can pick from are also voted for by the fans and split between "Starters" and "Reserves". This could be great to watch if the Premier League were to implement this. It would mostly be Man City and Liverpool Vs the London clubs but it would be very interesting to watch. The NBA also does a "Rising Stars" game where all the young stars is split into two teams and everyone showcases their talents. This could be a great addition to the Premier League as we have so many great young stars coming through at the same time at the moment. Personally I don't see this ever happening as the risk of injury is increased and it could cause even further chaos to the footballing schedule, but it would be interesting to watch from a fan's perspective. I would mention to Tom too that in the NBA All-Star game they don't take the first half seriously as he says but the second half is taken as an actual game and everyone locks in defensively.

1:00 he really hits the nail on the head here. Here in the US, nobody really cares about All Star games except for kids. It's a fun thing for them to see all their favorite players in one space and get autographs and such, and it drives up revenue for the league. That's all there really is to it. They aren't meant to be serious exhibitions, and the players always half ass it to avoid injury.

thats why people hated the idea english football has the reputation of every game , every moment matters but the real thing stopping something like an all star game happening is time the players playing in the game if it was made up of allstars play 38 league games , 6 fa cup games , 5 league cup games, 13 champions league games, and depending on if its a world cup or euros year 10 or 18 international games plus a pre season tour most players miss but thats another 4 or 5 games = 72 or 80 or 85 if they are mad as fuck nba players run about 3 miles a game football players about 7 football lasts 105 min every time, nba games about 120 to 150 there are no time outs in football health experts will tell you its not safe to train and play pro football with out 4 days between games with a year round calendar 85 games multiplied by every 4 days is 340 days thats 12 days short of a year playing every 4 days with no days off running 7 miles per day if not more and if they did this it would take a massive reshedualing because games would have to stop being played on saturdays which they are for the majority of the season to fit all the games in which makes it harder to sell season tickets and football is a global sport it would take FIFA and UEFA and the FA and the Premier League and the ELF and the PFA to sign off on it all just for 1 game no one really cares about and no one is sure how much money can actually be made from it its a pipe dream but never fear im trying to draw up a schedule for it might have it done by 2029 lol dont think i can figure it out with out breaking the league and kicking 4 teams out tho ... ill keep at it tho some one has to make these billionaires a few quid so they can give it back to the poor dont they lol o and i forgot the club world cup another 2 or 3 games their and the community shield game plus the european super cup so thats 90 games if ya a bad ass all star that wins stuff plus the all star game its self makes 91 thats 364 days .... which if ya make 12 games 3 days apart instead of 4 and give players holidays instead of pre season thats a full year the thing that pisses me off after working all this out is there is at least a month of the year football isnt on and its not on at least every day it could be run better but like i said maybe by 2029 ill figure out the maths to sort it lol

I have an idea. Pick two 11 man teams from the north and two from the south. The first team has to have 1 player from each team. The second team can be anyone from the north, for example. So that’s 22 players. At least 1 from each team and then just the other 12 best players in the North. So that’s 22 players from the north vs 22 players from the south. Here’s the thing… you can mix and match those 22 to make two 11 man teams, and each 11 man team plays one half. Less chance of injury if each player is only playing 45 min. Maybe they’ll go a little harder if they only have to go 45. And it gets more stars in the game while also having representation from each club.

considering this is an american idea (an allstar game), being “fair”and including a player form each team into the allstar lineup makes no sense or is needed. have players, coaches, media and fans all vote for the best 2 players at each position in each conference (north and south), and run with those lineups. an allstar game isn’t made to make sure everyone gets a participation trophy, it’s to get all the best talent avaliable on the pitch at the same time, and see combinations we’d never see in real life (like seeing lebron and kevin durant play together in the allstar game, we could see salah dumping in crosses to haaland). this 100% makes more sense, and would generate more money and add extra incentive
