The last Petz games was one of my favorites back in the day, but the PC version was way better. There was a whole online community, and people made adoption kennels on geocities to trade dogz and catz. And we'd try to create new breeds via breeding in game or using what was called a Hex editor where you'd code new dogs. It was fun.

I went through it in November with my 15-year-old dog. Went from happy, healthy, and active to downhill in under a week. It doesn't stop hurting, but it gets easier. What I did to help feel better was cry when I needed to, and when I was ready, I decided to foster a dog in his honor. I've fostered kittens for years, but never dogs. Helping another dog in his memory hasn't healed my heart, but it sure has made it less empty.

Arin, you can absolutely connect real Wiimotes up to your PC with bluetooth. I do it all the time. I got sick of my Wiis always dying on me when I needed them. Just get a bluetooth dongle for your pc or laptop and you're good to go. And Dan: Yes, scientists postulate that dogs have grown more human baby like faces over time. They also developed the ability to understand pointing. Most other animals don't, except primates like ourselves. Not even my beloved cats.

The hamster would actually be decent for one of those programs that runs as your desktop/wallpaper. Just always in the background and you can do stuff whenever you're waiting for something or if you're just bored. Some of the fun of owning a hamster without risking killing something if you're bored of it.

Petz 5 on PC was where the cool kids hung out! You could download extra dog/cat breeds, or even horses, rats, mythical animals. Basically you could create your own species. There was breeding functionality and different locations. Makes me want to play it again!

Fun fact: Hamsters require a lot of space for a decent quality of life. If that habitat were enclosed, those hamsters would’ve probably become depressed to the point of suddenly and violently ceasing all of their life functions.

I actually owned Petz Hamsters for the DS when I was little. It came in a Target bundle with a DS case, screen sticker and replacement styluses, which is probably the only way they could ever sell this game. I can confirm this was exactly what the game was like, but also strangely I remember playing it for hours. You could let the hamster out of his cage and it would wander around the living room floor where it would randomly find new items for its cage. When I found a mini roller coaster, I figured I'd probably seen the coolest and weirdest thing I'd probably ever see in the game and finally stopped playing.
