There's a pretty complicated background to how this weird abomination came out. First of all, you have to understand the history of Korean PC cafes in order to know why they played CSO instead of the original CS in Korea in the first place. At that time, PC cafes were providing services by purchasing several game packages and lending them to customers for a while. However, when Valve launched Steam and announced that it would charge about 15 cents for every hour of CS play at PC cafes, PC cafe owners who had already purchased packages launched a massive boycott of Counterstrike, which almost completely loses CS's market influence in Korea. Since then, numerous CS clones have appeared in Korea to occupy the Tactical FPS market that CS occupied. Among them, Nexon's competitor Netmarble's Sudden Attack was a great success, and Nexon also needed a title to counter it. In the past, Nexon was in charge of distributing Half Life to Korea, so it had a relationship with Valve. With this connection, Nexon purchased the rights of CS from Valve and made CSO. I don't know why it was developed based on 1.6 and CZ in 2007, three years after the CSS was already released, but it seems that they wanted more player bases through low specs, similar to the strategy Valorant took. However, Nexon's CSO was not established in the market because most of the Tactical FPS market was already dominated by Sudden Attack, and those People who would play CounterSrike on purpose were already playing CSS on Steam, even if it was much harder to access. It was Zombie Mode, which is custom mode, that broke this situation. In the Korean market, where the counterstrike community was half dead at the time, this zombie mode was accepted as a completely new mode, and it was successful in a position differentiated from the tactical FPS market occupied by Sudden Attack. After this success through zombie mode, CSO has become what it is now, focusing on these party modes and updating them. The sentence is not smooth because I use a translator, but I believe you will understand it roughly.

As i thought, most of the comments about the game aren't negative, yes the game can be cringe with the overload of stuff, but with a group of friends it's really fun, the variety of guns and tons of game modes to explore, and i even managed to accumulate 500 hours in the game. Personally i really enjoyed the Gun game mode with friends.

This was my childhood lmao The Zombies mode was so fun, but it did grow stale after a while with the constant powercreep (made inevitable by the P2W model of game "balance") CSO (or CSNZ) is basically CS if it was more of a platform rather than a specific game. On the same game client, you essentially have CS1.6, then a Co-Op PvE adventure (complete with multiple story missions, progressive adventure maps and boss fights), then the PvP Zombie Infection gamemode, not to mention a ton of other smaller gamemodes like Shelter Survival (building a base and surviving successive rounds) and even Titan fights (play as huge boss monsters or human monster fighters). The old graphics makes it easy/cheap to churn out huge amounts of imaginative visual content, as crazy looking weapon models can be made in weeks rather than months. Same goes for novel game mechanics (made ample use of in the special gamemodes). If you approach CSO/CSNZ thinking its just another deriative of the age-old Tactical Shooter formula, you'll be completely dumbfounded. Its moved way beyond just that.

For all those who say that this game is p2w, they are correct. However, the game has options in the map configuration menu that make it possible to play with the original weapons from CS 1.6: "classic" "new classic" "new classic zombie" "only melee" "only secundary" and "only awp". This greatly improves modes like "zombie Z" zombie hero" and zombie escape. I recommend playing with this configuration. If everyone gave this game a chance. I swear it wont disappoint you. No one pays me anything to sponsor this game I do it out of love for nostalgia. I see a lot of potencial, just like its siblings 1.6 SOurce and GO.
