Just because you have a high-end or expensive saddle doesn't mean that you can put it on any horse and expect it to fit...no matter how flexible the tree is. I'm sure it's fine to use your own saddle on a similar sized and shaped horse every now and then but if you're going to be riding consistently in that saddle you definitely need to get it fitted to the horse you are consistently riding. Serious problems with lameness and soreness can occur otherwise.

I don't think you can take a saddle thats been fit to a something like a thoroughbred and chuck it on a wide quarter horse? Surely it doesnt "give and move" that much even if it is "high end" ?

depends. you can use half pads to make saddles fit some horses, and similarly built horses might fit the same saddle. but no, you can not put the same saddle on two very differently build horses and it fit without using pads to adjust the fit☺️
@kmiklaszewski4 жыл бұрын
It’s very true that a custom fit saddle is much better quality but definitely not true that it can fit on lots of horses because it is high-quality. But Laura did say something like it had to be the same shape Horse that the saddle was fitted for. I have an adjustable saddle that can fit a very wide horse and a very narrow horse and everywhere in between but you have to take into consideration the shoulder angle with my saddle. The width of the channel underneath needs to be able to clear the spine and not sit right on that ligament or The bone/spine and it also has to match the angle of the shoulder not the angle of the withers. If the saddle doesn’t match the angle of the shoulder, when the front leg comes up and the shoulder blade comes back, the shoulder blade will bang in to that hard piece on each side of the saddle that is supposed to fit just behind the shoulder and the horse will be in quite a lot of Pain. Many people look at the angle of the withers instead of the angle of the shoulder when Trying to see if a saddle fits. It’s an extremely common mistake.

Wow! Fiona can’t be stumped either! lol! We need to get a good prank going that will stump everyone, lol. I love pranking people!! I have a question for you Laura. For Gabby and Sophie’s Saddles; what size gullet do you get? Regular or wide? I’m (hopefully) getting a saddle soon and regularly ride and train my friends quarter horse who is built similarly to Storm and has the same stubborn sass too!!🤣But I am trying to figure out if I should an interchangeable gullet system or a reg or wide gullet saddle. I would love to hear your experience with picking the right one!

Hey Laura, when you were talking about injections, I completely get why your vet is hesitant. Maybe you could ask them about a pill joint supplement, like Equioxx. It's an anti-inflammatory. He might do well on it!
@SejalNoelle4 жыл бұрын
CNK Equestrian I agree! Some horses don’t take well to pills. My mare is on Actiflex and Previcox. She used to get bute-less but was switched to actiflex and does super well on it. Bc she is a lesson horse, she has had a lot of work this summer so they added previcox and the combination has helped loads. (She has an old injury and gets stiff and sore)

Ha ha, Fionna is too smart 🤣 Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter Aria 🥳 How Jack has grown and Sophia certainly seems to have a lovely way with children 😊 I think you’re right about Storm Laura, over the time you’ve had him you’ve tried various things, ulcer medication, shoeing, saddle, chiropractor, vet and also how he’s ridden, how much and the sort of ridden work he does. He’s always seemed a little stiff in his movement to be honest and I’m not sure I’ve seem him stretch down with his neck ie he doesn’t seem very supple, but maybe that’s just him. You have the chiropractor out ( I do wonder if she would benefit from seeing him under saddle, as that can often be quite telling ie is the rider crooked etc) and as you said, if he’s been x rayed fairly recently so you can rule out any joint problems/degeneration etc, then what more can you do. He also gets hard feed ( can’t quite remember what), but that should provide energy and in general terms, he’s not in hard work. You could speak to an equine nutritionist, all the feed companies usually have them and the advice is free, so perhaps the feed company you use has one? He doesn’t seem to be a horse that puts his ears forward as much as some horses, maybe that’s a sign he’s not enjoying it, however under saddle more often than not that’s his expression, so personally I don’t think that’s anything new, just a bit more extreme on some occasions. Having said that, in the lessons Gabby had just a couple of weeks ago he seemed much happier, ears forward so I might just be talking a load of rubbish 🤣 We can push and make our horses do what we want, or try to and of course rule out any medical or other issues which might be impacting on their ability to do what we want, but ultimately they’re not always cut out for the job we want them to do and personally I think that’s the problem with Storm, he’s not a jumper ( in my view), plus he’s a bit of a diva lol. He does do what he’s asked, with some resistance at times as he’s a good horse and generally speaking most horses do try and do what’s asked of them ( in my experience). I did mention a joint supplement, more as something that might aid him as he gets older, just like we take supplements as humans. It will be interesting to see if he has a few days off whilst Gabby is at camp whether he’s any different. I know you and Gabby only want the best for him and I’m sure Gabby must find it hard having to get after him to get him going etc, that’s never what you really want. I’m sure you’ll work something out, you’ve got great people to support and advise you 😊👍
