We’re SOOO close! All the pieces required do get through the nasty Montana winter are nearly in place!
Treating straw bales with liquid protein should give them just enough kick and added goodness to keep the cows happy and healthy.
There is no substitute for good ol hay but considering the cost this season, it is out of the question!
Come check out this method and see if you can learn a thing or two.
Merchandise is coming soon!

Hey jacks Keep the faith.. Farming is the biggest gamble. Win some ,lose some. Fulfilling when it's all good. And disappointing when mother nature has her own ideas.. You earn, a boat load of degrees, and titles. If your open minded to learning and succeeding..Seems nutin is ever the same. Adapt and overcome. Prayers with the good lord, will carry you through..

I have been trying to learn about farm animals and the proper way to raise them. I actually went to Northern California about 10 years ago and stayed with the head of a 4-H club for months to learn about chicken, turkeys and goats. Now learning about cattle .. I am a life long city gal trying to learn about crops, and believe me that has been hit and more miss.. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I am learning. I do good with the poultry but not so good with the goats. I was glad to find your channel. I am learning about the Cattle watching your channel. I now live in the middle of nowhere in the U.P. of Michigan. I love it here and never want to go to a city or even near one.. The way things are going I think this is handy information to have. Thanks for teaching us. Not saying I know jack-squat about it yet.. but I am learning.. Thanks for your video's.

I would bet you know who Red Sovine is and I felt like sharing his Truck Drivers Prayer, if it’s not allowed I will take it down right away! “Dear God above bless this truck I drive And help me keep someone alive Be my mortal sight this day On the street where little children play Bless my helper fast asleep When the night is long and deep And keep my cargo safe and sound Through the hours big and round Make my judgment sound as steel And be my hands upon the wheel Bless the traveler going past And teach them not to go so fast Give me strength for every trip So I may care for what they ship And make me mindful every mile That life is just a little while....Amen” Thought it was a nice prayer! Be safe out there man, and keep up the good work!

I was raised on a small farm and my Dad would get feed for the cows and horses that was coated with this juice at the Feedmill. In your previous video you kept talking about feeding the straw to your livestock and it had me corn-fused(lol). Straw is bedding, not feed. Now it all makes sense and I'm no longer doubted with corn-fusion. Mixing that juice with your canola and corn would be a general equivalent of what we fed ours(our feed had more grains than just 2). I can relate to your struggles, especially when the Deer and Elk got into your stash. I'd have been filling my freezers to their brims just to supplement my own feed supply. I wish you all the best this Winter and hopefully 2022 will bring back a bountiful harvest that 2021 failed to provide.

Back in the day we used to feed out our barley and wheat straw with molasses that we poured into a sprayer tank with hot water to thin it out so we could spread it on the straw. I don't recall hearing any cows complain. They got corn silage and hay as well.

Have you checked out getting beet pulp from the sugar plant in Sidney Mt.? It’s an excellent source of digestible fiber with a crude protein content (averaging 8 to 10 percent), comparable to good-quality grass hay. Its digestible energy is somewhere between that of hay and grain. Don't know how much it costs. I know it worked very well for my sister's 30 yr. old horse.

Great video jaxx I used to work on beef and sheep farms back in the day in Cumbria England I can maybe offer some low cost solutions for high protein feed if you can get it in the US brewer's grains are good it's a by product from beer fodder Beet/sugar beet great for growing in cold weather and really high protein and good for cattle in cold climates we even used to get broken cookies from a local factory and feed them another waist product also turnips very common here you can plant them let them grow then strip graze the cattle on them hope everything goes well take care bud

You got to do what you got to do. Here in central ND USA hay was very short. We managed to put up 400 bales of cattails that grew about 4-5 feet high and stated to dry up (no heads). Managed to get them cut while still a little green. They were ground with 10% barley hay, 10% alfalfa hay. The ground mix is blended about half and half with corn silage and let set in a pile next to the silage over night . Letting it set overnight there is very little dust and with the warm silage the whole mixture also heats over night so it comes out steaming and a little different aroma that the cows really like.

Great question. This barley straw came from a plant that was allowed to fully ripen and was then ran through a combine. Because it fully ripened, no nitrates.

I get it that it was a bad year for growing hay but why the high price? Is it because you have to go so far to get it or is it because hay farmers are taking advantage of the shortage?

The drought is so widespread that LITERALLY every single ranch in the western half of the state needs several semi loads of hay. It was initially driven by supply and demand, but grew beyond that in the late summer to price gouging. Normally you can buy all the hay you need for 90-110/ton when we’re not in a drought.

Ah a fan of Quentin Tarantino I'm assuming maybe yes possibly not really? " The hateful eight" .... Back in the days of leaving nothing behind but black streams of smoke a mile long , dust ,and a broken hearted lot lizard in Ontario CA , east side way in the back otherwise known as " Party Row" ! Thought it was a great plan for reasons clouded by cheap perfume and her being somewhat sassy! Then her pimp showed up and away she went .....riding away from me in a purple Cadillac naturally . Kinda took a toll on my confidence I must say for a period of time lasting a mere 10-15'minutes if I was to guess . Anyways enough about unimportant issues Mr Jax . I see your gonna be doing some auctioneering have you already done it or is it yet to come? My dad was once the auctioneer he never rattled like you did though. I have a clue as to how one does that but it sounds cool as heck you do good at it anyways keep on doing your thing man Hollywood's waiting for you . You're destined to be there!

Anytime someone says “I don’t want to say ‘jerked around’ “ or “I don’t want to say ‘insert insult’ “ it is a passive aggressive way of just saying “jerked around”! I mean I love it and it’s clever but just say what you mean, well I guess you did. 😉

I hear you. It seemed a little harsh chase I don’t think this young guy was doing it intentionally.. just inexperienced in moving his product. But you are correct. I’ll be more direct .

I tried that liquid feed in my straw bales last year. Bale sat in the feeder untouched. Unfortunately

Was it the bitter natural style liquid or the molasses based? This stuff was really sweet smelling, almost where you could lick it off your fingers.

I heard they were facing a major downsizing. 😔 that’s an all too common part of ranching.. trying to hold on to property in a land market that is driven by big money millionaires.
