The part of the typewriter you push back and forth is called the carriage. Lol brings me back to high school. The tab sets are very easy. They help you align your type set. Love this❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@DonnaMSchmid8 жыл бұрын
Yes, and the lever to move it back to the beginning is called the "carriage return." Silly me... To this day, I still call the "Enter" button the "Carriage Return" because that button was used to return the carriage on electric typewriters! **sigh** Suddenly, I feel SO old!!!

I had a "vintage" typewriter that I couldn't even give away at yard sales so I tossed it away and now these are going for around $200? Wow just wow. Lol. Should never never throw anything away.

Loved this tutorial. I have wondered about this typewriter so I was happy to see it actually used in a crafting project. Really cute embellishments. I was a secretary for 20+ years so I know at the pitfalls of this type of typewriter. It actually took me some time to get used to a computer keypad. There is something special about the feel of a typewriter. But my favorite typewriter is a selectric. Thanks for another great tutorial.

Wondering how well this typewriter has held up over the years and if you still love it? I haven't heard great reviews for its longevity and many people who got it years ago now basically use it as a beautiful shelf decoration or door stop! What has your experience with it been Carissa? Would love to hear!

Loved your suggestions-- you can get a deeper impression if you toggle the tab on the left side of your machine up to "H" in your video it's set on "L" you will still need to use pressure on the keys but if you strike the keys evenly and firmly you should have a consistent look to your typing on this machine ( yes, mine is pink

So cool! You've definitely inspired me before with a vintage typewriter and I still haven't gotten a new ribbon for it. I really want this one but I'm AFRAID to spend more money on something that sits there for looks...haha. Thanks for this tutorial!

Your keys are not returning as they should. You may have sticking problems later on. I would send it back and get a true vintage one from a typewriter exchange. I have a 1965 Smith Corona and it is like a dream. (Of course it weighs a ton.) I have been watching reviews on this typewriter now out of curiosity, and yours is the third one that has trouble with the bars with the slugs on the end not completely returning. I would steer clear of this. A very nice video, though! Glad you posted it! And if anyone reading this thinks you have to punch the keys too hard, just get an electric typewriter.

Love your beautifully designed cards, but not crazy about the typewriters output. I purchased one and sent it back. I purchased a vintage machine, and can use WRMK ribbons in it. Vintage models type with precision, unlike this one, and many models can accommodate 12" paper.

This typewriter retails for $199.00 at Michael's. I live in the SF Bay Area and was in downtown Los Altos, CA and there was a business machines shop that sells refurbished typewriters. I purchased a fully refurbished Brother typewriter from the 1970's for $175.00. It is a much better typewriter!

I a real old typewriter, if the typos (letters) are not wore out, the writing won't look like that missing ink on the letters. This typewriter seems they manufactured it with wore out letters to give you the look, but if you use the machine often enough you will need to replace those typos very soon. I wonder where can we send these machines for repairs?
@johntapp14114 жыл бұрын
Naticris Tellavi you mean type bars, or more precisely typefaces. If one of these more of these are wearing out on you, you are pressing down on the keys way too hard or too soft, or the metal used in making the type bar is too soft As for repairs, if it is still under warranty you could send it back to the factory, or you could find you a shop where they still repair typewriters. And if they are selling some, BUY YOU ONE!!!

Ok boomer. How do you expect for us to know the proper terminology to these machines when your generation is the one that got rid of them? Y’all are the ones that brought us the computers. Y’all complain about everything about millennials but y’all forget y’all got rid of so many stuff before we could even get our hands on them. Literally everywhere I go there is a boomer complaining about us. Y’all raised us. Says a lot about y’all.

First of all, I love yor projects!But I would like to say a couple things about that machine. All the issues you attributed to being “built like a vintage machine” are really just issues the typecast typewriter has. Well maintained machines anywhere from the 1860’s to the 1970’s work way better. They don’t jam, the touch is feather light, many have touch settings, and the print is as straight as a ruler. The typecast typewriter is notorious among people in my line of work (manual typewriter repair) for typing like crap. At $170 they are a waste of money. You’d be better off with an Olivetti, or a Remington from the ‘60s or ‘70s which you could find for as little as five dollars.
@Jay-ir1vc4 жыл бұрын
But where can you find them? The only ones I find that are legitimately vintage sell for hundreds of dollars and dont even work anymore. They're sold as decoration basically because they arent refurbished.
@austinsilver61874 жыл бұрын
@@Jay-ir1vc You can find them all over, ebay is a good place to start. You can find machines from the 1950s for as little as $10 that still work perfectly fine. Look on ebay, look at antique markets. They are out there, there's millions. Remeber, typewriters ruled the world for 150 years. I know a good tech who repairs and sometimes sells. Last I checked he had a typewriter fully serviced for 175. www.lucasdul.com/typewriters There are plenty of other good sellers out there!
@austinsilver61874 жыл бұрын
@@Jay-ir1vc One more thing, there are seldom machines selling for hundreds of dollars that don't work. That is overpriced bullshit. For the most part, non working machines post 1930 aren't worth more than 75 dollars or so. Give or take (usually less). Working and refurbished machines can go for anywhere from 100$ to tens of thousands depending on the model. A good clean and serviced typewriter shouldn't cost you more than 200 for any standard mid century model.
@ellielopez16153 жыл бұрын
$5 where?! I found my Olympia sm3 in military green with black keys in great working condition with its case for $110 at a pawnshop & someone who restores typewriters & resells them for way more than that, literally over double the price of mine. $5 where because if that’s the case, the pawnshop ripped me off? Haha.
