I believe the white is correction ribbon. If you mistype something and go back, if you type over it with the white it covers it up with white, and you can correct what you typed wrong. I haven't used correction ribbon before. I usually just use a Wite-Out tape.

Great video. I've had the same typewriter for nearly 40 years. Got it as a present around 1986. A couple of years ago I got a 1960s one in mint condition for £35. Both typewriters are Olympias and I just flick a lever and it reverses the direction. I think this is based off a 1970s design but they probably removed some of the features to make it affordable. I didn't know you could get ribbons with 'white out' I've been using vintage tipp-ex sheets because thats what I've always used.

Haha I’m that crafty friend 🙋🏻♀️. Thanks for doing this video! Typewriters are a learning curve for sure!! Hand turning mine back to the right side being full seems to have fixed it for me. But so good to know you can just flip it and use the other side! Great tip Lindsey! 💕

I might be wrong, but I think the "clear" part of the ribbon is used for correction. If so, you have to hit the same letter(s) as the mistake 3x, and the ink is actually _lifted off the page_ instead of being covered up by whiteout.

Oh interesting! I’ll have to try that out!

Do you think that instead of clear it might be white? Have you tried it on black paper? It would be cool if that’s the case!!! If I couldn’t get one for correction, I’d like white!

Nope, it’s definitely clear unfortunately. There are ones out there with white though.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, my new typewriter just came in this week. I tried typing on the BTW4G mini flash cards, but my lines do not stay straight, my card starts off level and goes crooked, sometimes my card gets bunched up, and I cannot type to the bottom of the card. Do you have any advice on how to type on cards? I am wondering if I wasted my money :( Thank you for all your tip tuesday videos.

Make sure you slide the two rubber rollers so that they are both grabbing ahold of the card…that should help keep it from moving as much. You can also use washi tape to adhere the card to a larger piece of paper and run that thru and then remove the card from the paper (this works well for pieces that are too small to go thru on their own).

my typewriter is a 1939 Underwood..my mothers! Its like a dinosaur, but free. finding ribbon was a trick, but I did, BUT, I rarely use it because its so hard to move, its in a huge OLD case. And my office desk is not suited for that monster and its mammoth case...so I lug it to the dining room table. UGH. I appreciate your suggestions, many will benefit from that, thanks so much!

Great tips Lindsey! I have one of these typewriters and love it ❤ I think the 'CLR' stands for color not clear though???

Thanks Lindsey! I’ve been looking at vintage typewriters. I’m a little concerned about getting one. I’ve looked at the one you’re using but the reviews had me concerned. Seeing you use yours eases my mind a little. I might have another look at them. Do you think the clr might stand for color, not clear?

And yes, several people have pointed out my oops. It stands for color not clear 🤦🏼♀️

Clr is color. All their ribbons come with two colors. The white ribbon actually shows really well on dark paper. I do wish it had the whiteout option like old school typewriters

This is so fascinating! I collect and sort of restore vintage typewriters but have only heard of the We Are Memory Keepers typewriter, and I think that it’s very cool that a modern version exists out there! I feel as though the high price point is probably due to lower demand, which is also why it’s made with cheaper parts. In the ‘50s everyone needed a typewriter but in todays day and age they’re more of a crafty or novelty item, so a simpler model is probably okay. I am fascinated that there is no ribbon return lever for it. Most typewriters have a little lever in there that when you flip it, the ribbon reverses the other way so you don’t have to go through all this, but luckily it’s a pretty easy fix!

A ribbon return lever would be amazing! I’m sure you are right about the lack of demand having something to do with the price. I couldn’t imagine not having one now that I’ve been using it for a few years though.
