Awesome sign a Beaten-up Worn-out prototype. Vehicle companies who actually test their prototype to hell are the one who are actually serious about production. If a automaker keeps showing a useless pristine prototype for ages, good sign the project is dead.
@clarkkastory2660

Neojhun that is a standard in the industry Tesla is just too sloppy and can’t hide the flawed prototype
@Neojhun
@Neojhun 5 жыл бұрын
WTF LOL WRONG. Very unusually to keep a prototype long term and actually use it. Most makers Recycle a Test Mule after they are done with a few Iterations. I love how Pagani has a Zonda which has gone through 4 drive trains now being rebuilt for 5th time. Keeping a Prototype dirty not rebuilding it and actually using it proves how reliable and effective the prototype has become. Iterating and Rebuilding is usually needed after Failure or Major Improvement. Ironoicaly your stupid comment is Ignorant Nonsense, just PROJECTION your baseless opinions on Tesla. False assumption of how Test Mule work in Auto Industry.
@clarkkastory2660

Neojhun I said companies have test miles as a standard they just aren’t sloppy enough to leave them in the open
@Neojhun

Note how the vehicle does Not have CAMOuflage Wrap. That's because Tesla doesn't have stupid Lawyers that force the operations teams to not let things exist in public as fear of False Promises & Change. It's getting utterly stupid how far Automakers are willing to cover simple little things in fear of brand commitment. The opposite of "sloppy enough to leave", Tesla does not have Scam Artist Lawyers who are Ruining the industry.
@clarkkastory2660

@jasonchappell9694
@jasonchappell9694 5 жыл бұрын
Blue is service air, red is emergency air, green is electrical. The cooling lines for motors, even on EV setups do not require a color, and blue is already designated, as an actual legal regulation in all of the US, Canada and Mexico, as the service air color, and no other line on a commercial vehicle is allowed to use that color, EV or not, except for some smaller electrical lines that are not visible from the outside. Same with the color red for emergency lines. Those two colors are specifically set in legal regulations. The air lines are used for braking and stopping, with the blue seeing the most action, as it is applied any time the breaks are applied. The red comes into play in the event of a loss of air pressure in the system, thereby applying the emergency breaks automatically. This also happens if the glad hands accidentally get disconnected from the trailer while in motion, as this causes a loss in pressure... the emergency breaks will engage on both the tractor and trailer. Most semi's use air breaking on both the tractor and trailer, which is why you would have red and blue airlines going to the tires on the tractor, in addition to the glad hands that connect to the trailer. The Tesla semi just happens to also have a electromagnetic breaking system on the tractor in addition to the normal air breaks, to make them last longer. However, unfortunately, if used by itself, without air breaks at all, due to the weight of a fully loaded tractor trailer combo, the breaks would stop the vehicle too fast, resulting in a huge risk of jackknifing, which is why the Tesla semi still uses air breaks. Most likely, the engine cooling is, because of those colors, either an alternate color, or just black like it is on a conventional commercial truck.

You were very lucky to be able to have a chance to look at a work of art, This is a new concept in equipment. I was and owner operator for; Ten years, Owning and driving a 1970 Freight liner tractor-trailer (semi) Powered by a 12V-71 Detroit Diesel Engine. ( Two Cycle). My truck was an "Ass kicker"! What i mean by that, I had to make my living with my truck. I hauled Machinery, lumber, Steel, Overseas Containers, and just about everything you can load onto a truck and "Get Paid" To deliver what Companies or People will pay you to deliver; With out Damage, Late or Excuses. On the flat road my truck was comfortable and fast, But when getting into the hills this is where you have to demonstrate just how well you are prepared you are and how smart you are with the vehicle you brought to handle what you will run into, For example, Some of the hills you will run into are seven and eight percent and could be ten to twenty miles long when running California, Nevada, roads not to speak of Denver Colorado, leaving sea level going to Denver, that must be twenty miles long to reach and altitude of 14000 feet; That will really tax any passenger car let along a truck. When you hear Elon Musk, talking about a big truck moving at 0-to 60 miles per hour, in a very short time; Just think about the loaded trailer behind you and how well the load you carry will not be damaged! I do like the design of the truck Elon is bringing out, but it is not a car or pick up truck. I do like what i could see in the photos shown by Sean Mitchell, The motors powering this truck are huge and different from the way a conventional tractor is built. But when running Diesel power at night, will that "Electrical power be there when you are pulling those long hills or bucking a head wind and running all accessories that go with trucking and the equipment work?? I do hope so, it does look promising Good Job Eon Musk!!

Sliding 5th wheel, a light in the back to provide light when attaching the lines to the trailer ...nice touch. The frame looks like a regular semi frame. Orange...high voltage. Blue...motor cooling. Green...airlines. My guess. Tesla, should have a "Auto dock" feature. The most difficult part of driving a truck is backing into the docks, esp in a tight city environment. Going forward is the easy part......i think i saw a camera to help align the truck with trailer.

all of those are currently just reservations, not sure how many orders a founders since those require full payment to reserve at 200 grand each and are either 300 or 500 mile range models depending on "buyers" needs, most companies save money by Leasing making trades go easier than purchase trade in and is lower cost than loan or full payment ownership.

Definitely overkill for the largest/heaviest trailer that Airstream makes, unless your rich enough to get them to make a semi size Airstream trailer that hitches with a conventional fifth wheel, since it would be difficult to mount a rv type fifth wheel hitch on the back end of this design.

+Joe mariconadas , Regenerative Braking on this Semi Rig recovers motive Braking energy back to the Battery, that would otherwise be wasted via Heat from the Friction Brakes, or Diesel Engine Compression release via the Jake Brake. The Offset to the power plants isn't quite Tit for Tat, when short haul deliveries of Bulky Freight Items that don't weigh much are factored in. Elon Musk has said that power plants which burn fossil fuels to generate electricity are more produce less emissions than gasoline cars do. Even if there is no regenerative braking, electric cars running on electricity from fossil fuel plants will still produce less greenhouse gases than gasoline cars running on fossil fuels. A switch to electric vehicles WILL reduce emissions. How much depends on where the electricity comes from

@Joshua79C

I watch Bjorn Nyland of Norway run road trips with a trailer in tow most of the time, charging takes the same amount of time as without one, though the range is limited a bit due to the drag coefficients of the two vehicles, like Is said charging is about the same amount of time as long as no one else is using charger b or a station connected to the one you are u sing leading to lower transfer of power. But as like past naysayers whining about not enough charger in the early days of this decade, Tesla went out and multiplied the number of stations by the thousands. Even going o far as offering home charger station though at a limited power.

They're nowhere near practical for most purposes for several reasons. They're too expensive. The batteries are too heavy (that limits how much they can haul, which directly negatively impacts their economics). The batteries take too long to charge. And heavy reliance on rapid charging, which trucks will inevitably need, rapidly deteriorates the expensive, heavy batteries. Pure BEVs are still not practical for most applications.

Nice to get a closer look, thanks. Usually (but not always) the blue Synflex tubing is for the service brakes. It has Meritor-Rockwell rear axles and judging from the looks I'd say 38,000 pound rating. Rear suspension could be Neway, but the hangers look proprietary. That weld across the frame flange right in front of the fifthwheel mounting is just asking for a failure. The boxed in frame rails are going to hold moisture and rust out, And that taillight-mudflap thing on the back will last maybe 6 months in a real world trucking environment

It looks different in the motor compartment compared how it was at the unveiling. I always fear a bit that these close up footages of a vehicle still in development might give Teslas competitors too much insight. They invest a huge amount of money to develop these things, while copying only costs little money. Maybe Tesla should hide the truck better from public, at least not park it where everyone can film it.
@D0li0

I would wager it isn't that complex. You need only believe it can be done, have the proper assets to assemble it, and then execute. You could do one in a shop using fork lift motors and off the shelf parts but it wouldn't be a Tesla by any stretch. I still believe Tesla is maybe not thrilled with the close ups either, but I want them to be more open source than Apple, so...
