i know no one liked double shield but the best owl meta as a viewer was 2020 summer showdown meta with genji/ashe/tracer/widow with orisa sig and bap brig. sparkle building blade every 30 seconds by dashing through orisa pull and then proceeds to get 4k every blade. orisa pull into sigma rock was so hype. eqo with the legendary genji play. ans with best ashe plays we've ever seen. and we had the best owl games ever with philly vs paris and paris vs shock.

From the Viewer perspective I think Kiriko meta (Reaper, Soljorn, Winston, Kiriko, Lucio) was fine. It was the only meta where at any range you were not safe. Your Soljorn could pop off, but you always had to keep in mind enemy Reaper could just wipe the team. Each heroes were needed to make this comp work and each hero was needed to counter the same comp; which made it "Skill issue" kind of wins and loses. I enjoyed watching this meta.

Probably my most intense memory of Overwatch is during the 1:14:00 meta in 2021. My Zarya called out a grav to end Hollywood and win the game, told me to emp the Zen, no one else matters. I tried and the zen LOSd the EMP with the spawn pillar then Transd to save his team and win the game. Was one of the most coordinated and respectable plays I’ve ever been a part of.

I don’t think JOATS was that bad. I felt like there was pop off potential almost all around (less so support side) but jq genji sojourn all good fun heroes. The fact that it was an all encompassing meta is definitely where it gets the biggest hit. That being said it’s not the best meta for sure like a C maybe B on a good day.

It was kinda funny that period in contenders where Pharah was bugged so she generated ult faster. So people were playing JOATS with Pharah instead of Genji LOL.

shock vs Dallas finals was my favorite meta of all time. Each hero required so much attention to detail in every aspect (even reaper) and that's why the finals was so good.

Shanghai Dragons vs Dallas Fuel finals. I have no idea why Doha didn't play Sombra to counter Hammond 100% of the time. They forced that Reaper/Echo comp way too much.

sombra was banned because of stage hero bans iirc. the bans were tracer/sombra/rein/zen for the June stage.

I don't like mauga but jaws reasoning for why he disliked cage fight was the most delusional series of statements I've heard. If he didn't have shields his ultimate would be absolutely useless and getting shot and killed a single time by the enemy widow means nothing in the grand scheme of a match. Either ur getting diffed in general or the diffing the other dps.

I think one meta you guys forgot that I think was the worst in the game easily in washed up tier too was the grav dragon meta right after they did the Hanzo rework and brig came out right before goats and teams were just playing to damage boost the dragon it was so boring

Ngl, the shock v Dallas kiriko meta was great. It was fast paced explosive gameplay. The souj getting opening picks, the Winston diving in, the speed from Lucio and kiriko ult. The reaper is a little cringe but an essential piece to the comp to fight back the Winston, and give some chunky damage. Honestly S tier in my mind. Even though there wasn’t any swaps, you had high skill expression and good team coordination winning in every game

Awww, I liked moth meta because teams were playing WILD comps. Mercy herself was boring, but I want to say it was one of the last mirrored times where she enabled literally every normally unplayable character, so everything else got play time as long as someone was in Mercy jail.

OW2 is going to end up having the same tank problem OW1 had, no one is going to want to play tank because of the lack of love the role gets from the dev team. Devs killed the tank role in OW1 and if these devs dont change soon, they're going to kill the role in OW2

Meta that always brings the same tracer/lucio combo is not as fun as you think. I love it, but like too much ice cream, you end up enjoying Torb popping up in the Korean final last round or any other deviation. From a viewer pov, i did adapt to most meta and enjoyed the games as long as it wasn't lasting for the full season. I know it's not popular, but mirror is also an interesting way to see how team play a specific meta better. And i think it's not popular because average Meta force teams to mirror by definition. When you say Genji has not been in many meta, i think compared to soldier he had way more of a show. Funny ranking anyway.

the 2022 dallas kiri soj/reaper finals meta was pretty decent, not that great really. yea the event was great and the finals were great, but the comps weren't all that great. and like, yea you can admit there's finals bias, but we're not rating finals we're rating metas.

Avrl arguing a meta is bad because everyone is playing it is hilarious. I love you, Avrl, but that’s what a meta is. It’s the best comp available. So the best teams are going to play it. Yes, the best eras are when many comps are viable. But that means there is no meta. You are ranking METAs! These are the times when the best teams play the same thing. That’s what it is by definition!

The lack of memory.... Instant rez valk in jonak meta come on.... and you guys are saying 5v5 is better when balance like that happened with barely any patches, back then compared to a 5v5 game that gets patched twice a month minimum in this day and age. Every meta we went through was brought by supports. Ana was the first 2, Mercy the 2nd and 4th and 5th meta, Then brig which enabled goats, there is no goats with no brig. Goats even had 2 tank comps, never did goats not have a brig. Then moira/brig/bap for zombie comps and double shield cause its so hard to punish these supports. The only meta that tanks in 6v6 really made the difference is when hog was op. In 5v5, tanks dictate the meta cause there is only one of them, and you have to support the tank in the comps it performs well in or your team is screwed. With only one tank you only have really 3 max options of tanks to choose from to play cause of the rock paper scissors nature of the game. And if you remove that aspect then its only 1 because you pick the one with the best stats at that point.
