Obsessed with how Shane and Ryan combined would eventually come up with the two less practical things I would bring, which are a solar power bank and my e-reader, which has SO many books and fanfics on it. Also, for Ryan's benefit: Your chances of being found and rescued are actually much higher if you stay put on the island. Don't waste time or space on a boat and bring a tent instead.

this is so unrelated to the video but around 5:40 shane asks how often messages in bottles are found & what is the most recent and i have an answer to this! to my knowledge the oldest or one of the oldest messages in a bottle found was found by archaeologists super recently. in september 2024 some french archaeology students found a letter in a bottle from 1825! and i think the coolest part of this is the letter was written by an archaeologist in 1825 doing a dig like thats so neat

I normally love bashing Ryan’s list but the boat one that is useful. Not for escaping but for fishing. As for IFY his list was in point and to answer all of Ryan’s questions about how that keeps you sane have him speak to former prisoners that have turned their life around. They will tell you life in there is about routine so you keep your sanity. Humans are designed for routine

Solar power battery + laptop is actually a decent idea, but instead of loading it up entirely with entertainment I would download every type of survival tutorial I could think of. With 2T of storage you could have a lot of tutorials and still have room for a handful of movies, preferably ones with a lot of rewatchability value. I’d also make a fire desert island playlist and make sure it’s downloaded. My other three items would be a life straw, a hatchet, and a beefy first aid kit.

Mine: - Biggest batch of rope I can manage (paracord) - My heftiest multitool (has a hatchet, saw, and knife) - Solar Power Bank w/fire starter - Probably the most durable water filter I can find - Maaaybe the laptop/Tablet idea if the powerbank can handle it -- if not, the biggest book about outdoor survival I can manage (laptop would be better bc I could use Ctrl+F on a PDF of similar books for specifics)

Wasn't expecting to see this of all things in THIS video, but now that I did see it here is your PSA of the day: Read the Count of Monte Cristo whenever you get the chance if you have not already, and make sure that it's a version that is largely the same as the original and not an overly abridged version. I might be biased as it is my favorite book, and I know it might be intimidating to some people due to the sheer size of it, but it is 100% worth it man. I don't think it would be one of the five things I would bring to this island, but it's still worth the read!
