I used to think everybody went broke during the Great Depression and other major crashes but they didn’t… Some made millions, I also thought everybody went out of business during these times but they didn’t, some went into business, there's always depression/recession for some people and there's always a good time for others, it's all about perspective.

Since the crash, I've been in the red. I’m playing the long term game, so I'm not too worried but Jim Cramer mentioned there are still a lot of great opportunities, though stocks has been down a lot. I also heard news of a guy that made $250k from about $110k since the crash and I would really look to know how to go about this.

The FED is aware. They have no firm plans to combat inflation. Stocks and commodities will rise along with everything else as they will continue to inflate. You can't just sit on your cash and wait for a crash; you have to put your money to work, start investing gently, and then pick up the pace as the prices fall further. Making the decision to take money out of my account in excess of $365,000 at this time is more difficult. I am aware of certain investors that continue to make that much despite the terrible downturn market. I wish I could pull that off.

A recession is 6 months of economic contraction, and a depression is 36 months of recession. The rub is that we must endure the 36 months BEFORE the government admits, if ever, that we're in a depression. He has always been consistent and proved to be right on several financial and macro key issues : Debt trap, stagflation, dedollarisation and wealth inequalities created by these artificial monetary tools. They need a system in America where when you go to the store, there's the Democrat price and the Republican price, and if you didn't vote for Biden, then you get the old pre-inflation prices, and if you are a liberal and voted for socialism, then you get to pay the higher inflation prices, and you show your government voter ID card at the checkout. Then when a company decides to layoff their workers because of the current administrations policies, they have to layoff the people who voted for this, not the people who voted for the other guy. They keep their jobs. Why are red state Americans paying for the socialism that the blue states wanted? This could ignite a civil war.

Hardly. It has been over 100 years of mismanagement now. Federal Reserve act was in 1913. The Bretton Woods system that put USA in the privileged position it is currently in or was a year ago was in 1944. The only thing that happened recently is the degeneration of the US economy to a point of no-recovery. FDR was probably the guy who was in charge when most damage was done, but he was in office for longer than most also.

The only problem with Peter's argument is the fact that there is no other currency that can replace the u.s. dollar. It's going to take decades for that to happen. The world can't suddenly drop the dollar overnight it's not possible. Also any talk that the brics nations are going to somehow come up with a gold backed currency to challenge the dollar is ridiculous. No currency backed by a commodity can grow unless more of that commodity is consistently gained. It fails as soon as it's out the door.

BRICs are launching a commodities backed currency. Very different. The US economy is extremely weak and completely dependent on the export of dollars, once that ends it is game, set and match. Could that be avoided? Sure but not with neoliberal policies, only capitalism could save the USA, but there are almost no such people left alive today in the West.

@@zemm9003 and the BRICS will fail. No currency backed by a commodity can grow. It needs to grow so the economy can grow so you constantly need more of the commodity. It's failed before it's even starting

Ask these gurus one thing about the demise of the dollar: when these countries are done bartering with their new currency basket, are they going to hold the crap as a reserve? Or are they going to dispose of it as soon as possible for $ or Euro?

Ignore the U3 unemployment rate and focus on the U6 that includes the number of people who are unwilling or unable to work; they have opted out of the work force. The jobs number does not consider people, it only counts jobs. A person could have more than one job and the jobs are all counted separately. *"To summarize, the money supply is important because if the money supply grows at a faster rate than the economy's ability to produce goods and services, then inflation will result. Also, a money supply that does not grow fast enough can lead to decreases in production, leading to increases in unemployment." -- St. Louis FED*

@Kevin Hart I am not deciding what others should value; I am stating what is of value to a large nation as a whole. The economy of the United States is in the crapper. One of the reasons is the loss of producing things of value to the masses, as opposed to items such as financial products, which are only of value to a small portion of our populace. A large part of GDP is rapped up in financial transactions...which makes the rich richer and the rest poorer.
