I used to think everybody went broke during the Great Depression and other major crashes but they didn’t… Some made millions, I also thought everybody went out of business during these times but they didn’t, some went into business, there's always depression/recession for some people and there's always a good time for others, it's all about perspective.

most of these strategies and loopholes are better managed by experts and pros in the market, the average Investor on the other hand are left to suffer during a crash.

The issue is people always have the “I’ll have to do it myself mentality” Unapologetically, that’s why the get heavily affected during a crash and coupled with the fact we’ve had the longest bullrun ever in the American history, most folks aren’t equipped to manaqe this crash and it’s impending opportunltles well enough, so it only makes sense to seek proper guidance during these times, that’s what lnvestment-advlsers are for, been using one ever since the pandemc 2020 and I’ve been barely affected by crash, I have $850k in profit sitting in my portfolio and I’m unbothered about the market outcomes.

Recessions are an inherent aspect of the economic cycle, and the key is to get ready and adapt. I entered the workforce during a downturn in 2008. My initial job out of college was as an aerial acrobat on cruise ships. Presently, I hold the position of VP at a global corporation, own three rental properties, invest in stocks and businesses, operate my own company, and have grown my net worth by $500k in the past four years.

Things are strange right now. The US dollar is becoming less valuable because of inflation, but it's getting stronger compared to other currencies and things like gold and property. People are turning to the dollar because they think it's safer. I'm worried about my retirement savings of about $420,000 losing value because of high inflation. Where else can we keep our money?

It is a government inspired crisis this time. The Treasury have to sell Bonds to cover the trade imbalance and the government spending imbalance. In order to sell them they have to raise interest rates and the old long-term, low risk, low interest, AAA investments (including Treasury Bonds), held by the banks (often due to government regulatory policy), become next to worthless. The next milestone is the 15th when the government issue a new batch of Bonds. I have approximately 350k stagnant in my portfolio that needs growth. @@kevpit5044 David Lin fully understood the conversation and was being subtle in calling Schiff out for his comparisons to the Great Depression. It was Schiff who sounded foolish comparing his prediction of horrible inflation with the Great Depression. During the Great Depression there was NO inflation; the main problem was crippling DEFLATION, where the price of goods kept dropping so businesses made less and less money and kept laying off workers until the unemployment rate was 25%. A bad recession with high inflation is termed stagflation which we had in the 1970's. Schiff needs to get his history comparisons right and David Lin understood this. The main problems with the great depression was a 25% unemployment rate and deflation. And it was due to the horrible deflation that the Fed promoted a little inflation as being good. Schiff does not expect deflation at all so he should stop with the Great Depression comparisons, which had no inflation. He might be right and this cycle could be a bad recession with inflation, but that defines stagflation. if that's the case then Schiff should be comparing what he sees later in 2023 with the 1970's; not with the Great Depression. From around 1975 to 1981 we had the worst stagflation in our history and that's what Schiff is actually predicting later this year.

I truly think you're onto something. The silver lining for the GI generation and Silent Generation was their knowledge of how to grow their own food. Nowadays, most people depend on buying food to get by and know nothing about self sufficiency. That's going to cause something we've never seen before. We have to prepare to adapt and be as self sufficient as possible in these times. Complacency will be our downfall.

Peter, you are so right! I grew up in communist Romania and they penalized people buying food (meat, eggs, milk, vegetables) from farmers and peasants! But the government as administrator failed so we needed up hungry (and lots of people fined and jailed for buying and selling food)…

And if they tried to, I don’t have to imagine…I know what they’d be met with. It would surly be a civil war if the government tried to say people can’t grow food to live.

Not a Yank, Singaporean. Given that there a forthcoming new electoral cycle. Expect the higher end of the probable estimated range. However the confounding factor might be House leader Steve Scalise precarious hold on his leadership, given the disproportionate influence the Freedom Cacaus has say on new Federal or even pre authorised expenditure. This should be a unresolvable roadblock of a issue, however Secretary Yellen & Chair Powell seems to find thus far unchallenged (by Congress probably because their reticent in sholdering any responsibility for the failure as & when it occurs) highly creative (as in possible ultra vires) work arounds their circumventing of the powers of the House to control the purse. They Chair Powell & Secretary Yellen appears to have de facto spend thus far some 300 billion USD on a probable ultra vires, specfically not authorised by Congress bail out of the banking system. It was unauthorised, there were however time critical, exigent circumstances, it arguably necessary, mayhaps a imperative but was it legitimate quite probably not, mayhaps criminal. Did it prevent at least for now, a immement meltdown of the banking & thus financial system. Yes, but it was illegal & at best in the overall scheme just papering over the fault lines prior to a inevitable collapse. It will probably not be the US gov who will authorise the spending to bail out the economy. There now a legislative logjam & it's very difficult to get new ir any suspect spending pass certain elements of the Rep House. It will be ad hoc decisions made by a cabal headed jointly by Chair Powell & Secretary Yellen, that highly suspect as to their legislaive authority if any or to any proper procedural process, to be determined & establish by loose cabal who will make up/interpret legislative authority on the fly to do whatever they deem necessary (as to authorising authority to do the necessary Brrr) to save the system, headed by Powell & Yellen. They will be the drivers of the size, speed & scale if the pivot/QE that the will try to use to save the American Economy. Biden WH will stay aloof & try to lay the blame if it fails spectacularly on Powell & the House GOP & on the remote possibility that it be sucessful lay claim to it. The bail out of the US economy & its resulting fallout should it fail badly as in taking down the international reserve status of the USD & T bills/notes & bonds. It's a hot potato that Scranton Joe ain't going to try to resuce, for it likely that any measures to address it will lead to pain & tears, that iminical to his & the DNC electoral performance. It's a reasonable expectation that 2024 electoral cycle considerations that will drive the decisions to intervene to save or bail out the US economy. Expect the USD international reserve status to take the necessary hits/sacrifice to try do a folorn hope/last hurrah to try save the US economy. As Secretary John B. Conally 1971 Treasury said, " its our currency, but your Problem". Capiche Y'All

I love how all economists will tell you that inflation is an expansion of the money supply. That’s not the definition of inflation. Inflation is prices going up, that is it. There are hundreds of reasons why prices go up, increasing the money supply is one reason but not THE reason.

I'm on a fixed income (heart thing) I still have been able to prepare. Please, if you haven't already, get a heat source, water source, food for at least 6 months, electricity source, Tampons and barter items. Due to being poor I chose to stack silver. I did take warnings early so I started a few years ago. The most valued thing I'm missing is a strong community. Please if you love your family prepare for the worst pray for the best.... When the sleepers come begging 2 choices barter hard (half cup rice for their propane grill) or run them off, be careful they don't return in numbers. I'll eat em if I gotta but Eww all those chemicals 😂... Jk... Seriously tho I am technically the poor. Think like jail and how creative they can be with ramen. Get yourself a 🔫🐕‍🦺📸 too! Peace and safety may the odds be ever in your favor 🩶🕊️ Edit* Personally I'm poor but I do have a husband that's hard working (he doesn't believe me) and great older parents which has helped.

@@jenniferraymond3913 Thank you, that's exactly what I'm trying to say! Regardless income, prepare like it's a monthly bill. I'm as prepared as I can be but I'm sure I'm missing things. Not many believe me either. I may be physically prepped but my mental fitness is what I'm scared of. I'm praying I'm tough enough to get through it with my 6yo. Thank you for commenting it gave me some mental validation that I've not been wasting time and money to prepare. You're very sweet. Blessings and be safe🕊️ And I guess we buckle up and go for one heck of a ride. 🙈

I agree the bubble will pop, but one of the biggest problems in the great depression is that banks were not FDIC insured for customers.

According to the IMF 11th of April world economic outlook report, Peter's claim has some merit as for the first time the IMF is alluding to some kind of depression by stating the possibility of a hard landing and at least a 5 year period of slow growth globally.
