congrats on giving full time KZbin a try. so far your doing good. Must be getting $$$ already. Are those chick a meatbird breed? Might be slow growing if not. Will be watching and cheating for ya. thanks for the video.
@ThisOffGridLife2 жыл бұрын
@@glengillis7775 yes, they are a heritage based meat breed and growing fast. Bred on a small BC farm, and not owned or controlled by EW group (global monopoly of commercial chicken genetics) which I thought was interesting and a selling factor for getting this breed.

Katie, many years ago my hubby went to the hatchery to get 50 meat chicks. They asked him how much room he potentially had and so he came home with 500. Took us 3 weekends and all of our extended family to process them. Also, our daughters made a pet of one of them and he had to get them to point it out and catch it so that he could move it into another shed. Crazy but happy memories! Hope you have lots of good ones! Watching in West Kootenays.

Hello from the sunny UK. A good tip for planting, is plant your carrots next to your onions. The carrot fly does not like onions and will leave your carrots alone and the onion fly does not like carrots so they protect each other. There is a great book called "Carrots love Tomatoes" by Louise Riotte that explains what vegetables should be planted with others as natural protection etc. for each other and what grows well together - may be of some use.

When rearing chicks never have square corners as they can suffercate if frightened. I;d say you need both lamps going as they were huddled under the light. They should be in a circle round the light and food should be one end and water the other. I used to rear 2500 at a time to turn into laying hens. I wish you the best of luck rearing them, nothing like home grown food.

Good evening, watching from Spokane, WA, US. I had never heard of the Mistral Gris breed. I have now done a lot of reading on them. I like them because you can save some hens and roosters, start egg production, and hatch your next year's meat birds. I have been raising the Cornish Cross for about 3 years. I may have to try the Mistral Gris next year. Congratulations on your new endeavor. Sometimes it's hard to close that door to open a new one. Katie you are going to do great! :) Thanks for sharing your life with us. Looking forward to future videos!

You should put a thermometer in with the chicks. Should be 90 - 95 degrees for the first week. Drop the temp about 5 degrees each week and then keep about 70 degrees till the become old enough to keep each other warm.

Way to go Katie! you are going to crush it, you make awesome content Maybe it's the breed of meat birds I got from my local co-op farm store but they are huge. It's only been 8 weeks some are well over 7 lb and I don't free feed them. But I do soak their feed for just over two days, they love it and they don't devour it like the dry stuff and the increased water uptake helps the big ones in the heat Congrats on becoming a full-time farmer ! 😁✌️
