I think the coolest thing about Zhao, both in this show and in the animated version, is of course he's an antagonist for Team Avatar - but he's also an antagonist for *Zuko.* It's such a neat dynamic, and really sets Zuko up as someone who will go on a different journey than you expect.

Kyoshi was INSANE for this. She came in like a goddamn fighter jet. That was like bringing a nuclear warhead to a parking lot brawl. She barely flicked her wrist and Zuko was out for the count. Girl wasn't even remotely in the ballpark of messing around, she came to FINISH the game and I could honestly watch an entire episode of her being 7ft tall and wrecking the fire nation soldiers. That's my kind of entertainment :D They did some meh stuff with this adaptation but they also did some really cool stuff and Kyoshi here was definitely one of them.

Why aren't people happy with this show? It's a fantastic and relatively faithful representation of the original - yes, it changes stuff, but who wants a 1:1 remake?? Compare this to what we got with the Halo TV series, which absolutely butchered the source material. It could have been a *lot* worse!

Definitely could have been a lot worse. But it's also got some major flaws, but I'm hopeful that if they get a season two, things can improve. I think at the core the most important thing is the chemistry between the characters and I think that's one of the strengths of the show... My main gripe has been the sloppy dialogue/character work. Classic trap of telling not showing . Characters just directly confess all their feelings and motivations and it feels very awkward. It feels like the writers just didn't trust the audience to do any work themselves and just spoon feeds everything explicitly to the audience. But very fixable! I'm hopeful that they can fix this in season 2. I'm certainly hopeful enough that I hope they get a second season.

@@Nomadic813 I get it, that as you seem to be someone who knows a lot about the Last Airbender, you don't need to be spoon fed every character's feelings and motivations, but (and I would hope this is the intention of the show's producers), not every one is familiar with the source material or any previous adaptations, so you have to allow for the fact, that they're possibly hoping for a portion of the viewing audience of this live action adaptation, to be complete newcomers to the story - like myself. 😁 I'm really enjoying it!!

Yangchen was actually even more of a hardass than Kiyoshi. She was SO good at her job, no one in the world even thought about a war for like, 100 years after her death. It's one of the reasons why Kuruk was something of a "slouch" - because everyone was too goddamn scared of Yangchen's ghost to cause too many problems.

I truly think they'll greenlight 2 and 3 and film them at the same time to not have to worry about more aging up. Also the actor playing Aang doesn't look much older now, he's just a little taller. So they'll have a time jump for sure, but I think it will only be a few months and instead of needing to defeat the firelord by the end of the summer, he has to beat him by the beginning of winter. I think it's reasonable to expect them to start filming by August, September at the latest.

That’s what I was thinking when they said seasons 2 & 3 are coming. They’re going to take a much smaller break (if they take a break at all) between the next 2 seasons. I don’t mind the time jump. TBH Aang looks a bit too young to comfortably pair romantically with Katara this season, but now that he’s almost her height it will be a lot less awkward if they decide to introduce Aang’s crush & the slow growth to their romantic relationship. Honestly hoping they keep the fire nation dance party.

My dad watched this episode with me, and he pointed out to me that Katara’s “doing the wave” was actually her doing Tai Chi. I found that really cool, how they incorporated a real martial art as waterbending choreography.

Even in the original series, they hired a martial artist to help choreograph all the movements for each bending style. Water bending has always been Tai Chi. Toph’s style is actually derived from a style of KungFu used by a real life blind monk, if I remember correctly.

This show is in my opinion giving Anng's responsibility more weight, yeah there isn't all the goofy fun side adventures but this way feels a bit more organic in a sense given his age and the situation of being the avatar in this situation. So many people are complaining that this isn't one to one with the animation but with only 8 episodes some condescending and continuity changes needed to happen and so far I'm loving how this has been done

Yes! People also don't realise filming started for this in 2021. It's already been years, the actors have already aged. I think I heard if the next season gets greenlit, they want to film both season 2 & 3 at once so that the postproduction doesn't allow for more aging in between so they can introduce the time frames ect.

I literally talk about warriors of virtue all the time. At 1 point in time, my stepfather found a trunk full of toys and in that trunk. Was a complete set of the warriors of virtue action figures. And I just need to say that I feel so seen Hearing one of my favorite content creators, Jay, mention that movie. When the movie forbidden Kingdom came out with Jackie Chan and jet Li. While I wish it was super faithful to the show in having Roku be the first former Avatar to take over Aang’s body I am happy with the change to Kyoshi as a) she’s awesome, b) we probably won’t get an episode that features her trial, c) she’s ruthless. Sokka with the fan was cool but i wish they weren't afraid to have sokka dress up in the garb , and while suki is a designated love interest having to humble herself to make sokkas confidence feel better instead of him learning actual humility ,but i love this suki , and the little moment where she doesnt undwrstand she went too far was cute not scary as it could be , because she also learns from him , but dont know why the show runners are so afraid to have anything "woke" with the garb or sexism

We don't know a ton about Kyoshi? The 2 books on her: Rise and Legacy are shedding tears when you said that. The Yangchen (the previous airbender avatar) books are also a thing as well. And they've been out for a few years at this point, I think.

Suki's mom also played the Vulcan Commodore in the first season of Star Trek Picard, she's brilliant. But I love this characterization of Suki, and they NAILED Kyoshi. Not only super tall and intimidating, but RUTHLESS. They also just barely scratched the surface of her background, a nice easter egg from the Kyoshi novels. Also Fan Mommy and Flame(o) Daddy, lol
