We're Building The Ultimate FB RX7 Street Car With FD Engine Swap!

Over the years I have been lucky to have owned many fun FC's, and an FD, but Since high school I have wanted to own and build and FB. So last year I found an insanely nice GSL-SE local which is the cream of the crop in the US when it comes to 1st gen RX7's. But the 13b NA motor had to go in favor for a proper built Vargas built REW engine which is the Japanese FD motor. Rather than keeping the twins, we went with a big single and proper manifolds to match. All while keeping AC and power steering.
John is handling the power related stuff and fab, then I will get it back and do all the chassis stuff to make it ride nice but hook up on the street.

Man, this was a great video except for the audio parts. There were a few parts in the audio where Vargas was giving mad awesome rotary advice and I just couldn't hear crap. Like what kind of Oil they run, what kind of Premix they Run, Motor weaknesses. I'm a huge rotary guy and would love to hear their opinions on some things. I still love this build, a FD motor in a FB was something I always wanted to do as well, but then I just got a FD instead. I love the 80's ness of the FB interior, it's like a 70's living room but utilitarian and somehow there's a Sex Swing involved. Anywho, can't wait for more Rotary and FB content!

If you want a clean built rotary that'll last a long time there's only 2 people id trust to build a solid ass reliable rotary either the Vargas brother's or Rob Dahm. Thats why Chelsea and LZ Collette and Jimmy Oakes calls in the pros to build all their rotary. People talk shit about the rotaries cause they dont know what their doing when building one and it blows up. If you build BS and cut corners then your going to get BS

Ok that's not always true man! If your thermostat hasn't opened up DO NOT KEEP RUNNING THE CAR!!! PERIOD!!! Only if your cooling system is flowing and working well do you let it run when it gets hot. Do not ever just let it keep running if the thermostat isnt opening. That's the only time. I'm a automotive fabricator and master Ford tech. I've installed probably 1000 thermostats in my tenure and at least 15-20% of them wouldn't open up. Brand new, just wouldn't open up. So what I started doing is getting a pot of water to 180° or whatever temp the switch is calibrated for, drop the t stat in the pot and see if it pops. That way you don't have to waste a bunch of water, overheat the gaskets, seals, and oil in the engine, risk warping the heads if you own an aluminum LS platform (L33, LS1, LS6 etc). I've seen it happen more than once. And I know the heads were perfect because I decked them myself..
