When I was working construction in Colorado all walls in basements were floating walls. Pressure treated bottom plat on the concrete. The wall itself is framed with its own bottom plate that will be about a 3/8th inch above the bottom plate on the concrete leaving a gap. Used gutter spikes to connect the two. So yes the walls hang fro the ceiling.

We had little tiny feeder goldfish in our outdoor fish pond when I was growing up. Those fish grew about a foot long and had many babies in that pond. They would have stayed small if we had kept them in a bowl in the house. I call this the "goldfish bowl syndrome" and liken it to the size and capacity of our homes - the bigger the house, the more stuff we get to fill it if we are not careful!!!

If you put Lexel caulk on the lumber bottom plate it will stick to the concrete and it will seal water and insects from getting under the plate.

UTILITY NOISE CAN REALLY MESS WITH A PERSONS SLEEP. Make sure you put sound proofing on the walls inside it. Insulate the ceiling from the kitchen living noise as well. Perfect bedroom for a teenager as they can just let their friends in through the ground floor window or go out and PARTY, haha, remember guys. Merry Christmas to all of you. God Bless.

For the bottom plate, use a tapcon system, drill a hole, and hammer drill a screw into it.

I like tapcon much better than ramset. Consistent to work with. Working on old concrete dam walls, I added a plastic drywall anchor to create a better bite and it didn't strip out like they tend to do if over tightened.

it is really nice to see Trent and Allie doing a project where they aren't freezing. Another consideration is you have a water heater and plumbing that can break/freeze/ flood in your basement. When you panel in that wall facing the utilities, especially the plumbing it would be really handy to make it screw in or an access door to get at all that pipe etc since you made it so close, utility side.

I work myself. Just over 25 years in Prefab concrete. And I have training as a concrete professional. When concrete is poured, it takes 28 days to reach minimum tensile strength. And then the concrete slowly hardens until about 10 years. before the approximate maximum has been reached. So. About 3 years? You have to drill and use hammer plugs Greetings from Spakenburg, the Netherlands. 17:35

In watching these videos I can tell you one trend I notice - Allie is usually right! Usually :) Children's bedrooms that far from you - unless they are older teens - is NOT a good idea. Up until about 13 they do need you sometimes at night if they get sick, etc. Also in an emergency at that age it's not likely they will behave like someone older would and you would hate to be so far from them. We also know it's actually Trent that's the horder, and that she did a lot of that cleanup AND filmed. Trent, you've definitely got your skills, but NEVER underestimate Allie. You should be floating the interior basement walls. Basements do move and if your framing in direct to ceiling and floor like you did, it will move your main floor and cause cracks.

Tile and stone don't have to feel cold. If you're planning on a hydronic heating system, just put hot water from your boiler under the floor. However, you'll need to insulate the floor under the tubing and use PEX tubing.

Growing up our basement had the furnace, water heater, oil tank and extra fridge & freezer walled off from the main area. During the winter and when weather was too bad to play outside we played there. Art boards, electric trains, ride on toys, tumble mats, lego etc filled our days and contained our mess. As we got older the space changed and evolved as our interests grew. Large screen TV's and movies with couches for sitting and gaming stations with headphones kept us busy. Basements are something that evolve in families with children as it keeps them close and busy without having the drama of cleaning everything up and putting it away before bed. That huge Lego village in progress can safely sit for the night and not be stepped on in the dark.

We do a purge about every 6-9 months now. Our daughter will be a hoarder, if not for us. The rule is simple, have you used it in the last year, no, then consider purging it. If it’s latex paint, after a 18 months remove the lid and let it dry out. I have spreadsheet with the paint numbers used in each room just in case. I do plan another purge after first of the year. My wife tends to bring her stuff over time to the garage, so it’s in 1 place.

Yes, a BIG potential problem. You are walling in the furnace equipment, and if a repair is need, it will be virtually impossible. Ventilation will also be absolutely necessary to prevent overheating. That whole area should be pretty open so you can easily get at the equipment for adjustment, repair and/or removal, without having to dismantle everything. At the moment, you have new walls only inches away from what you may need to access on a fairly regular basis. That is not good or satisfactory, and probably contravenes your building permits.

Actually, according to the Building Code, no Green wood for indoor construction..just saying..just put a neoprene squishy layer in between normal wood and the slab..the Vapor Barrier 6 Mill you put on the crushed stone before pouring the slab limits any water from seeping into the slab..also, the squishy underlay creates a thermal break..keeping the wall studs from conducting Cold temperatures and feeling cold.
