Green energy requires battery back up for up to 7 days during spells of low wind and grey Sky`s in the UK is happens very often. Battery Capacity Needed: 7 days of energy = 5.77 TWh = 5,770,000 MWh = 5,770,000,000 kWh. Battery Costs: At $100 per kWh, the base cost = $577 billion. At $150 per kWh, the base cost = $865 billion. Infrastructure and Efficiency Losses: Adding 30% for infrastructure, the total costs would be: $750 billion (at $100/kWh). $1.125 trillion (at $150/kWh). If we go to heat pumps and Electric cars you can double these prices We have the most expensive electracy in the world but its going to need to go much higher its totally unviable in a shrinking economy with 70% tax rates...
@stumac86914 сағат бұрын
Those batteries would probably have a 10 year life at best and should most major economies go down this route there wouldn't be enough raw materials available. The whole idea is pure fantasy but what else do you expect from incompetent politicians. We desperately need a new way of governing this country because the civil, judiciary and most of our political class have been captured by this mad ideology.
@tonyb362926 минут бұрын
There aren't enough raw materials in the world for this anyway - even if we had the money. The environmental destruction of mining all these minerals is utterly staggering (I'm not defending oil either by the way), but as always when there's big contracts and money at the end of it, it doesn't matter as it's 'for the greater good'.

As with Soviet era practices, improverishing your population is a key part of controlling them. Starmer no doubt relishes this. And of course most if not all Labour governments aim to do this, as they did in the 1970s and in early 2000s ('no money left').

We considered looking at some solar to assist with our home energy needs but we aren’t even in winter yet and we haven’t had a sunny day in two weeks. I would need 10 times the solar panels that are specified for for a typical system to ever expect to top off the batteries. Maybe if we switch to a vegan diet the sun will shine more? Hmmmm.
