In celebration of Earth Day 2024, we're proud to announce that ALL Firewire Surfboards & Slater Designs surfboards will ship plastic-free by January 1, 2025.
Plastics are a danger to humanity and all living creatures, disrupting the delicate balance of life on Earth. We challenge you to join us in rapidly phasing out all single use plastics, and invest in innovative technology and materials to work towards a plastic-free world.
From the materials we source and the techniques we use to manufacture, we have one simple goal here at Firewire Surfboards & Slater Designs: to ensure the best performing surfboards also leave the smallest environmental footprint possible. Surfers are so ecologically-aware. Once you cast aside how many surfboards we buy, all the wetsuits and other gear...and just focus on the packaging for the new board we buy every month....look how sustainable we are!

And we’re not talking about how many flights these guys are taking in a year, to satisfy their « passion ». Surfing is praticed in the ocean, but it has become one of the most non ecological sports. Except if you stay at your home break…

In New Zealand a shaper has developed a surfboard glassed with wool, rather than fibreglass mat. Now we need a zero voc resin made from plants and cork for the blanks, perfect👌

Don't get me wrong, this is great, but I can't help but think how much of the cost of sustainably goes into a plastic surfboard that if gets lost in the ocean does more damage then anything you try do for sustainability.
