Confusing how black magic cannot be used to revive someone when there is magic to revive someone but weaker, I know, I know they can revive because the soul isn't that far from the body if it's well maintained, but it's still resurrection magic but weaker.

technically they're just using regular healing magic to fix the body until it can support life again (transmuting blood and materials to replace missing parts). Though if the body is badly damaged the soul can become decoupled from it, and not fully revive (becoming some kind of undead) or simply not work at all (though the soul is still trapped in the dungeon but no longer connected to their body at all, becoming a free-roaming ghost). Falin's soul was barely tied to her body and the chances of it working were extremely unlikely, and Marcille had to merge her with the dungeon to strengthen it's attachment (which dungeon magic is all ancient magic) until they'd restored enough of her body for it to stick properly again. That's what the ancient magic she used actually did. The rest was just normal healing magic, except with her borrowing mana from the dungeon itself to fuel the spell. True resurrection magic exists that can put an intact soul back into a body but requires using ancient magic to do it due to the obscene mana costs required to use it. And is basically banned in the modern day as no one has really used it since the Cataclysm. Thistle used a variation of it when he rez'd that one guy, but it was extremely hard on his body so he added the immortality spell to make future revivals easier (and because none of the spells he could figure out were able to cure Elodio's terminal illness since it was considered a natural part of his body and always came back, so making him immortal was basically the only thing that worked since he effectively froze his biological progression at that moment).
