I think a really good video would be of Randy doing a mock farm on showing people how to get into farming and how to manage a farm. Doesn't have to be of yalls farm just a mock farm so he could show numbers of it and all that. I believe that would be a great educational video that would help a lot of people. And make it as long a video as it take to get the info all in it. Please like this comment if that would be interesting to you all and hopefully they see it

I think you made a good choice with that truck. You don't need 4wheel drive all the time. Most people think you do but I could be wrong also. Go with your gut.....😎
@WayneYoung-yv8ww Жыл бұрын
Chet, that C4500 Kodiak has a manufacturer's published Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) of 26,000 lbs. The issue you will run into isn't whether or not you can pull the trailer, you absolutely can. The issue is that you won't be able to put much on it without being illegal because you'll exceed the published GCWR. I have to believe that truck weighs at least 10k and the trailer with a hydraulic beavertail has to weigh at least 8k. That only leaves you 8k for payload. I've been down this road and it's not a pretty ride. The beauty of the hydraulic tail is that it's long and you can move weight almost to the rear of it to counterbalance any weight near the front, thus allowing you to be legal on axle weight on the tow vehicle. The tail also allows you to load 100% of the deck length, another plus. It also will have a shorter wheelbase than an equal overall length standard deckover trailer has because of the length of the tail, making the wheelbase shorter than an equal length deckover, giving you a shorter turning radius but ultimately you will find the inability to load what you hope to, without exceeding the published manufacturer's GCWR of 26,000 lbs, will be frustrating. I owned a PJ 34' tandem dual lo-pro hydraulic dovetail with electric over hydraulic disk brakes for about 10 years. It was a fantastic trailer with a GVW of 24k! I pulled it for a few years with a GM K3500 dually, which handled it fine. The trailer brake system would stop a freight train. The truck had enough power to tow it fully loaded. I could balance the trailer to the point where the weight on the gooseneck ball was legal for the truck rear axle weight rating, but I could never get legal for GM's published GCWR. If GM had never published such a figure, it would have not been an issue. But they did and ultimately for me it cost me 8 grand on a state scale, at a dollar a pound. I was not over GVWR on the truck, not over GVWR on the trailer, not over axle weight on any axle, but I was over GM's GCWR of 26k, weighing in at 34,000 lbs in combination. I paid the fine and went shopping for a tow vehicle with a higher GCWR because I regularly hauled in excess of 32,000 lbs. To stay with GM of the vintage your truck is, you need a C6500 or larger. For Ford, you need an F550 or larger. For IH, you need at least a 4300. WHY? Because there's no published GCWR for those trucks. Most of those single axle tow vehicles can be licensed up to 55k for a GCWR. I ended up purchasing an IH 4300 DT466, tuned,with air ride, air seats, all the bells and whistles. It was a dream, ran like a raped ape but ultimately it was heavy, even when empty. I have since sold that combination in search of something more fuel efficient. I'm now towing with a Ford F550 4x4 dually, pulling a triaxle (single wheel, 8k axles) 24k GVW trailer, still 34' but the total vehicle combo light weight is 5k lighter than the IH and PJ combo with the very same overall payload but I'm in a lighter weight class for license, insurance, and my fuel economy is increased. I'm totally legal in all 48 states. Check your door sticker on your C4500 Kodiak. You'll see it has a 26,000 lb GCWR. That will haunt you and there's no way around it.

Trust me on this, you need to put your 100 gallon fuel tank on your gooseneck toung, we use a dodge ram 3500 2018 dually deleted and on a trailer fhst size it it pulls our 14k skid steer, side by side, and 5 or so attachments just fine, amazing what deleting a cummins does for power
@tiredoldmechanic1791 Жыл бұрын
Deleting really hurts your bank account when you get caught. $5,000 for removing the DPF filter and $5,000 for disabling the DEF system. Then you need to put it all back on.

@@tiredoldmechanic1791 ya but here in Kansas we can have deleted diesels and he is buying a new diesel for his horse trailer to travel the country, so he will have his deleted diesel for fence building, and know it’s a power horse, and if your not stupid and showing off you won’t get caught
@tiredoldmechanic1791 Жыл бұрын
@@nickhartsock9849 The emission laws are Federal laws and apply anywhere in the United States. It doesn't matter if it's on road or off road. Even construction equipment is required to meet the emission specs. All they have to do to catch people is to plug into the OBD port and they can tell in a couple of seconds.
